because the only possible outcomes of that equation all have the same symbol each time.
Because the symbols that correspond to each number change each time, but the only possible correct numbers are the same. Basically all the possible numbers all have the same symbol in one stage, but that symbol is different each try.

Take any two digit number, take their sum. Detract the sum from that two digit number, you'll get a multiple of 9. Now look at all the diagrams they show, every ninth diagram is always the same.
