I suggest that you search the forum on the topic. You are not the first one to whine about central bank. I believe someone explained how central bank works in the past. Look it up and bid accordingly.

Even if the bid given allows an extra "increment" then CB can still bid and force your bid up.
Then again, just how much is that increment if you're the only one bidding ?
It's only if you can guess the magic maximum that CB will bid and go from there that you have a chance. Well, that or bid an insane amount just to be sure.

CB will bid once, and only once. CB will also never bid any higher than the next bid increment. This is why i often place my bid, just to find out what the next minimum bid will be, and raise my proxy to that... CB, or another CBer attempts to outbid me, and ive matched their bid... I still win.
Also, these problems are entirely avoidable if you bid the most you are willing to pay for an item when you bid... It won't cost you anything more than the minimum it would go for if you sat at your computer checking the bid every 10 seconds... Still not sure why so many people will bid less than they're willing to pay and still complain they lost in the end... Proxy bidding is there, it should be used. If you are outbid, it means the item sold for more than you were willing to pay, if it doesn't then learn the system, and better luck next time...

"You are not the first one to whine about central bank."
I know I've ranted about that awful feature more than once.

you can always bid insane amount from the start if you really want the item.. auctioneer will return the surplus to you once you win the bid
gross I just lost out on a much needed CoI for the sake of 75k :P
But I guess I should have bid a bit higher then.
"But I guess I should have bid a bit higher then."
That's all there is to it, really...

you dont get the surplus back..
If you bid $1.2m and you win at $1m, you get $.2m back.
When you get outbid, everything you bid comes back. 100% of it. If you win, everything you bid up to the highest bid is lost.

auctioneer (auctioneer) toitle (Kree) $39751 (auction-overage 108596) Dec 18
that is getting the extra back from over bidding
Central Bank never bids on my stuff...:P
