Another problem with seperate Equip/Train pages (in General)

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 11 2008 9:53 AM EST

Now the Equip page only shows ability effects, it's not easy to see how much a new peice of armour has changed your stats.

For example, I equpped a Corn on my Evasion/AMF minion.

As the Euip page only shows my Effect for Evaison and "?" for AMF, I have no idea how much the Corn has now boosted my AMF, nor how much my Defensive Dex has taken a hit from the Corns Dex penalty.

For that, I have to go to the Train page.

If I want to compare the effects of a couple of items on my stats I have to switch back and forth between the two pages.

The Euip page just does not show enough detailed information about your characters stats.

And if it gets changed to show the same information as the Train page, is there any reason why the two can't be merged?

The old way was better. But to merge them would be really messy I think, visually. And then to show all the levels whilst having equipment and training on the one page, just seems too bad.

Do a mockup of a layout that you think will work. The worst that will happen is that someone will say No.

My biggest issue with the 2 pages is that a character MTL value cannot be compared to stuff like actual spell levels from the same page.

For example, I need a minion's MM level to stay higher than the character's MTL so the MM minion always gets targeted first by mageseekers. Right now, that is a pain because I am constantly jumping from one page to the other.

Flamey January 11 2008 10:43 AM EST

Talion, I don't see how that matters. you goto your equip page to see your MTL and then when you train all you have to do is remember the MTL?

I've made a quick mock up (it's really just a merge of the two pages) as a page in Excel. What would be the best place to upload it to so people could see it here? :/

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 11 2008 1:26 PM EST

OK, Thanks for the help on this, I hope it woks! ;)

Two things -- (1) How are other minions listed? (2) There is not enough width to support all of that information in one horizontal display.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 11 2008 5:03 PM EST

1: Same as always, either the Tab next to the minion name (like the Weapon/Armour tab in unequiped items) or belwo each other is shown all. I only had a single minion, so didn't add another Tab next to Power Leveller.

2: I wasn't sure about the width. That's just standard A4 portrait size. I didn't use landscape for this reason. It's looks to me like there's room that could be made by condensing things.

Or using a slightly smaller font. ;)

If space is needed, I'd get rid of Raw Effect. Or join the Raw/Total coloums together. ;)

AdminNightStrike January 11 2008 5:34 PM EST

Item names tend to take up a lot of width. You could merge the raw/actual columns by putting both numbers in the cell with a slash in between. That might work. You could then merge the level and effect columns by using the old parenthetical notation. So it'd be something like:

Phantom Link: 1000/2000 (1800/3600)

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 11 2008 5:55 PM EST

Yeah, that sounds good to me! ;)

Slash it up, I agree. Anyone really looking close is already in high-level-brain-parse mode anyway. Compression with delimiters is entirely acceptable.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 11 2008 7:03 PM EST

So if the 'Stats' size is reduced (if needed) for the Items descriptions to fit nicely, does anyone see anything else wrong with merging the two pages?

Not knowing how the mechanics behind it actually work and what's feasible, I left the individual 'Train' and 'Save Changes' links in, but also added a combined one that would save any changes made to the page.

Anyone think of anything else?
