How do you make physical attacks...? I can only get my minions to make magic attacks....?

If a minion has a choice between magic and physical attack, it will always pick the magical attack. In other words: unlearn the Direct Damage spell, and it will use the weapon.

It's not the best idea to combine both magic and physical attributes on the one minion.
Sure, mix them in your team, but not on a single minion. Either drop a weapon or unlearn an offensive spell on one or more of your team members.

There's also no need for a mage to train bloodlust. ;)
