Armor AC idea (in General)

Obscurans March 25 2008 7:58 AM EDT

As everyone knows, the lower armors are placeholders until you find one of the "higher tier" rares/supporters, then you ditch that hard leather you're wearing.

There's a couple of groups of items around:

-the massive penalty, massive AC types (wall armor)
-the enchantment % bonus to stats types (elvens, etc.)
-the grants no AC but DD/ench bonuses (corn, MgS, etc.)
-the static bonus then high upgrade curves (TSA, gi, etc.)

Now, since only upgraded + affects magical AC, how about making some of the low-base AC things have a lower upgrade curve? Like you can feasibly get a hard leather up to +120 or so but the AC to +100 with the same money. You still get less AC total, but you get higher magical AC.

-that's low base AC, good upgrade curves
-and you can reverse that for extremely high base AC, impossible upgrade curves for those that don't like PR weights

I CAN HAS FLAMEBURGER.

You really want to give players MORE magic defense?

Good idea, but right now I feel that it'd be another straw on the poor mage's back.

Lumpy Koala March 25 2008 9:29 AM EDT

no... coz everyone will opt for hard leather instead of Adam. Who wants the freaking negative bonus anyway, if hard leather can give much more magic defense for the same price.

Obscurans March 25 2008 9:38 AM EDT

Oh, and give the cheap to upgrade armors penalties near that of the high AC armors... not a no-penalty hard leather [6]+100...

Yukk March 25 2008 9:54 AM EDT

No because then it's just a leather AC. We already have an adamantite one.

Obscurans March 25 2008 10:54 AM EDT

I mean, an AC with a much lowered base armor class but also a lowered upgrade curve. Possibly less penalties and less potential total armor.

Tezmac March 25 2008 10:56 AM EDT

Lets see, you've already got Protection, Endurance, + on AC, MgS, EH, and AMF. You want another way to reduce mage damage now?

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] March 25 2008 11:02 AM EDT

tez you forgot the main one, the random dd damage mod which can negate half our damage before we ever get started.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] March 25 2008 11:17 AM EDT

also, remember that the mage shield can be upgraded to negate 40 percent of dd damage for around 6 million cb. i think that if anything, we need to make it more expensive to block magic damage rather than easier or cheaper. doing away with the random mod or toning it down a bit would also be an option in my mind.

Well, Obscurans, I think the upgrade curve for the low-level items are so high to prevent exactly what you're suggesting - a boost in magical AC. With no or very little penalty, some items - like the Cabby, for instance - have huge upgrade curves because it would simply be abused for easy, easy magic-reducing AC.

If you upped the penalties on the low-penalty armors, you would indeed be getting a Leather Cuirass instead of an Adamantium one :).

Dude: I'm kinda irritated when I hear you complain about how little your damage is due to all the reduction and or Randomness of DD. Switch to MM you will do massive more damage than you are doing now. Spread damage is your downfall as well as your FB isn't trained high enough compared to your HP anyways...

Look at the damage that Nwo Deals with his MM... Either from his mage or from his SF... The SF deals 950k damage a hit in ranged to my +40 mgs minion... Thats alot of damage.... more than enough imho considering most characters don't have as much hp as some of the others. His mage still deals 600k a hit in ranged to my MGS minion >.<

Coc is more than enough to overcome both MGS and and other DD reduction you can think of... just look at Conundrum... he can almost take out every character now except a select few that have way more mpr + NW/PR than him. I don't hear him complaining much...

You just chose the wrong type of DD if your looking to maximize your damage. I really don't want to hear you say nerf MGS again... to some... thats the only way they can even win against mages... especially those with UBER Evasion... I know I have to let you nuke yourself otherwise I can't beat you when I use any tat other than ROBF... And I am pretty sure there are better things you can use other than the current equipment that you have. Maybe even a Junctioned Aof SF instead of ToE... Even Hubbell Went to AOF junctioned SF instead of FF...

Just please don't complain about lack of DD Damage...
