This might be handy for smaller teams. They might spot a nice +10 armour piece in the shop and decide to pick it up only to find that the networth of that item makes it unuseable with encumbrance.
Not as bad with weapons, but we've already had one thread about someone being encumbered with a stack of ammo.

This sounds to me like a good idea, what with the recent introduction of encumbrance.
