Elven long sword as no special ability? (in General)

SuperHD April 24 2008 5:07 PM EDT

ok is it just me or is it strange that this sword as no special ability, it may be the top sword in its one-handed weapon, but its still an ''Elven '' gear, so why does this elven sword has no special ability like all other elven stuff?

Anyway lets talk about one-handed weapon, its one hand so why cant i use one in both hand? I think there should be a skill to enable a character to have one saber in each hand for example.

QBOddBird April 24 2008 5:09 PM EDT

Ah yes, the dual-wielding BoTH tank with a TSA and a ToE-wearing PL battery that casts a big VA.

I'm all for it too!

Eliteofdelete [Battle Royale] April 24 2008 5:10 PM EDT

Considering it would be a skill, they could not have PL =)

deifeln April 24 2008 5:13 PM EDT

Perhaps the ELS could have a super reduced PTH curve, thus making it Evasion's foil.

Cube April 24 2008 5:17 PM EDT

Dual wield would be useless, due to Weapon Allowance, Encumbrance, Evasion, and Endurance.

Tezmac April 24 2008 5:28 PM EDT

It's the one handed equivalent of the BoNE. More damage, no VA.

AdminLamuness April 24 2008 5:28 PM EDT

Ooo, dual wielding. Then mages should get dual-casting! I would love to cast Decay + DD of choice.

Tezmac April 24 2008 5:30 PM EDT

Yeah, because mages have two hands... ;O)

It exists. It's called Bloodlust.

Plus it has the benefit of not tkaing up any WA and instead of lowering your ENC, actually increasing it when you train it.

CB has no benefits for individual weapon hits. If you Dual Weild two weapons for twice as many hits (as long as both weapons are the same size - which is the best case senario for the user) it's exactly the same as doing x2 Damage. Or having a skill that lets you do x2 damage.

While BL is no x1.6 damage any DW skill would either;

1: Be useless as the number of hits it gave would make you deal less than x1.6 damage

2: Make BL useless, as it would let you do more than x1.6 damage.

FORSTANUTBI #3:

Q: Since CB already distinguishes between one-handed and two-handed weapons, why not allow equipping two one-handed weapons?

A: Because two good 1HW like an ELS or maybe even two claymores would be massively overpowered. Getting even one extra attack would be way more benefit than using a shield or a 2HW, so a lot of gameplay choice would be lost (because one option is far more powerful than the others).

Now, we could make twoweapon a Skill, but then we'd get rid of Bloodlust and only people who could afford to upgrade two weapons would have that choice. I think it's better the way it is.

With the recent changes to WA and the creation of ENC, I think duel wielding would leave you with two undersized weapons that would fail to hit a lot of the evasions out there. Also, removing a minion's ability to use a ranged weapon while having two 1Hs equipped would even out the playing field a bit. Yes, I realize this is a FORS; those are my two cents anyways. 8D

j'bob April 24 2008 9:46 PM EDT

Well I'll say it. The dual wield may seem redundant at first glance but I'm guessing (out on a limb I'm sure) that the BIG draw would be the ability to use 2 specialty weapons, each with it's own particular benefits. For example, a BoTH for its VA ability and oh say .. a VB? Call me crazy. No really go ahead, call me crazy.

Cube April 24 2008 9:51 PM EDT

^That's the only use of Duel Wield that I see

Read the post before you make yours :)

that would certainly be interesting

Eliteofdelete [Battle Royale] April 24 2008 10:39 PM EDT

Yea, I realized it after I had posted but I can not edit posts.

TheHatchetman April 24 2008 10:42 PM EDT

Besides, you'd want a ToA (boosting the pth of both weapons :P) with a TSA on the PL dude :P

j'bob April 24 2008 10:55 PM EDT

Well, depending OF COURSE on how everything stacked...
minion 1
TSA wall hp and pl

minion 2
dual both ToA with elven gear

minion 3 (hired later on in life for just this purpose)
pure va

if both BoTh's stacked with each other AND stacked with va you'd have a possible 80% va.
Throw in minion 4
(another meat shield in back) casting as big an AS as possible and you have a vury interesting team.

Cube April 24 2008 11:19 PM EDT

Err it wouldn't be 80% VA, because you'd be doing more damage too, two weapons. It wouldn't make sense for the effects to simply stack also.

Overall, Duel wielding would be mostly completely redundant/useless, except in the case of the VB, or a +200 dagger.

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] April 25 2008 8:44 AM EDT

RC, each hit would actually be doing less damage per hit than a single weapon making the VA cast at a much higher percentage, so yes an 80% VA would definitely be possible.

Cube April 25 2008 10:10 AM EDT

But VA is done by a percentage of the damage you do..

20% on one hit is less than 20% on two hits, but it's still 20%.

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] April 25 2008 11:45 AM EDT

VA works better when at or above the damage you do per hit.
2 smaller one-handed weapons will do less damage per hit than one large two-handed weapon which therefore means a VA would work at a higher percentage with the 2 one-handed weapons than the one two-handed weapon.
Another way is, forget total damage completely and look at individual hits. the right VA can give you say 80% on a 200k hit but only 70% on a 400k hit (not real numbers but as an example). 2 hits of 200k would drain a total of 320k whereas one hit of 400k would drain 280k.
Better understood now?

QBOddBird April 25 2008 1:05 PM EDT

This discussion is about the usefulness of airports if pigs could fly.

I.E. it's entirely fantasy and will never happen

Cube April 25 2008 1:26 PM EDT

Oh so you mean you'd have to train less VA, I get it. But Cutie's completely right no point arguing about it anyways.

j'bob April 25 2008 1:40 PM EDT

Cutie... err.. OB (ick), a bazillion things that don't can't will never be implimented and or changed get tossed back and forth here. Suddenly we're at the airport with pigs on the wing? Yeah, the specifics have gotten stretched a bit far (80% VA) but the back and forth has so far been civil and good to pass the time.
