PSP or not to PSP? (in Off-topic)

Does anyone have it and has some experience with it?
Is the PSP any good?
I keep reading about the Lite and Slim versions, what is the difference?

Would you recommend me one?
And if I would get it which games should I get with it?

Basically I'm going on vacation pretty soon and I need something to do in the plane, but can I use it to listen to music, watch videos, in short is it fully multimedia?

I've heard there's some great mods for the PSP. I have an NDS with a mod thingy. It lets you use some of the cool homebrew for it. NDS can play music and video, but it is limited to the little memory cards you can get. (I've got a 1gb and a 2gb one) I imagine the PSP is limited the same kind of media, memory cards, or by streaming through the wireless network.

Since you are going to be on a plane, you might just be better off with a portable DVD player and a couple DVDs and an MP3 player. Or you could just bring a laptop with all of that on it already.

The PSP Slim and Lite, other than being thinner, has a TV output (which you have to purchase a cable for).

  1. WLAN switch is moved to the top
  2. Infrared is removed
  3. Faster loading times
  4. 64mb onboard RAM (versus 32 on the original PSP)
  5. Web browser
  6. Remote play (only with certain PS3 games)
  7. DPAD has been raised
  8. Brighter screen
  9. View photos
  10. Watch movies (UMD)
  11. Play music
I'd recommend Disgaea or God of War.

lamy, you are my new best friend, those games are awesome, I would recommend also Final Fantasy Tactics for it. You can get memory sticks and put movies on them, but it takes a little more effort than I would be willing to exert... (changing to the right format). batteries last a while, not really long, around 5+ hours (in my experiences)

Crisis Core. 'Nuff said.

Only reason i still have my PSP is because i am going to get Crisi Core soon, my roommate beat it already. I have already beaten GTAs for it, if it wasn't for Crisis Core, I'd have sold the PSP a long time ago...

Well in the first place I want a machine that has the most number of games for a hand held. Its the psp or the DS and i really don't want the DS. But if it happens to play song and movies for it then its even better :)

Get an R4 card for DS, you can put music movies and games (roms, but you didn't hear it from me) onto it. It comes with Moonshell, which is the music player.

i've got the original psp. Its pretty good in the fact that you can play music, movies in mpeg4,pictures and you can download any psp games onto it if you hack it. You can also put other apps and emulators onto it. PSP also has region free games so any game will work on any psp.
There are a few good games out there. Maybe its because i've had my psp for a few years but im wondering if the DS might have better games out there.

If you get a Play Station Portable a good game is MPO+ if you like Metal Gear Solid1,2,and 3 for the PS2 and it is way better then the nintendo ds

God of War: Chains of Olympus. Need you any more reasons?

Notice Sony always comes out with a product that becomes extremely popular. Once the fanfair begins to die down, it's time to make it flimsier and crappier model. PS2 slimlines suck... I know a few people who have had the big ones since they came out, and they work fine to this day. In fact, I've never seen a normal PS2 that just died for no reason... Meanwhile, I've burnt out 2 slimlines... I never owned the PSX, but my PS One didn't last very long either =/ Other people I talk to have had many similar problems with the smaller versions...

I would advise going with the original product if at all possible, unless there are some major and superginormous upgrades to be considered :P

Plus, the price goes down more since it's "older" and had more time to be so.

Another great thing about the original PSP is it's better for homebrew, due to the fact you can run more up to date firmware on it.

PSP has better graphics than DS

I don't own a PSP, but one of my best friends does. He also owns an iPod which never gets used because he loads music onto the PSP instead and uses that. And, as he says, something he can use for games, films and music gets his vote.

crisis core wasnt that good btw

Brakke Bres [Ow man] May 25 2008 1:55 PM EDT

Yeah but I think the PSP will get my vote this time.

So both GTA series for it, God of war.

Maybe a nice racing game. Is ridge racer any good? I love the the psx version of the game. (Still have it)
