spybot search and destroy doesn't score as well as it used to on test but it's very effective overall...and FREE!

Thanks I'll try that right away.

But just a question, this spy ware opens tons of internet explorer advertise sites, If I did not have internet explorer, would it use Firefox or would it stops?

that would depend on what it is...

but getting firefox would be a nice place to start after you run the scan

Hmm, that sounds more like a trojan than spyware. I say that because I had the very same problem on my PC several months ago.

Turned out someone in the house had accepted an active x onto my pc and infected it. I had to get help to get it sorted out. These (http://www.geekstogo.com/ are the guys that sorted me.

One of the things I was advised to do after I was all cleared up was install both Spybot search and destroy as already advised by Novice, along with Lavasofts Ad-Aware. They're both free and they compliment each other well.

Good luck.

PS. Like you it was only IE that was affected and FF was ok to use.

spybot has a fairly new version out that really seems to work well. microsoft windows defender is also free and integrates with windows update to keep itself automatically up to date.

avg anti virus also has a new version out if you do not have virus protection. ad aware as mentioned above is also good. i would put them all on, run a scan with one, let it clean, reboot and pick another one and repeat. if that doesn't get rid of it, look at the majorgeeks site as mentioned and do a hijack this report.

the new avg version checks web sites and even verifies safety for like google searches before you visit the site, not sure how much it helps yet, but it can possibly prevent such things from occurring.

Well I had mcafee that came with my computer for 12 months, but now it's been 3 months the contract is finish. I never really had any virus and my firewall was always off. That's why I neglect but with all these anti-virus, anti-spy ware you gave me, my comp should be safe for a while. No lets just hope I get rid of this one soon.

Thanks for the help.
