Clan Members (in General)

Phrede June 12 2008 10:42 AM EDT

Hi everyone,

This is just a quick comment on another game I play which has a much larger number of 'Clan' members :)

I just thought it was so much better having more members of a clan in terms of comradeship. I wondered if there was any way we could do the same sortta thing in CB.

i.e. Increase the number of members (or really just the PR/MPR limit) so that we could have less number of very small clans and larger clans - obviously the clan bonuses would have to change to reflect this.

Just wondered if anyone else thought the same way. And also what the negatives of this would be.

less people to fight...
more of the top players in a single clan...
Sut's head will esplode.

I'd still like to see scrimmages myself... I think that would bring people together outside the confines of the clan system.

(Hour long tourney's that have massive bonuses and restrict you to fighting only certain people with predetermined items)

I am only talking about an extra 2 or 3 people per clan so the 'less people to fight' comment, although still valid, is not an especially big deal.

Bah, clans don't need more people in them, they need something to make em fun. Like not getting farmed by people insanely more powerful than you, for one. (But this is not only a clan flaw...)

Anyway, with the number of people playing, wouldn't we get something like two or three clans, tops? (As stated, one of them with the top 20 in it?) Maybe with a larger playerbase....

Phrede June 12 2008 10:57 AM EDT

as far as 'more of top people in a single clan' it would be simple to set a limiton the number of top 20,30,40 or 50 people that any clan can can enlist (if they happen to get in the range whilst in the clan no problem - just like now).

Sorry, you posted while I wrote, forget the top 20 thing I mentioned :P

How about each clan has to have at least one girl :)

How about each clan has to have at least one member over 40 :)

Monsieur thingy I totally agree with you that the clan system needs to be made more fun - its certainly one of the weaker parts of this game.

Yeah! A cryptic post from me...

Mmm, I think it would be important, here, to define how "more people in a clan" would increase comradeship.

Is it that being made part of a bigger clan makes you want to socialise more, makes you feel more loyal to the clan, or just because you can get more of those who are "vocal/involved" into a clan?

Is it that having more members gives you an increased probability of getting one of these "vocal/involved" people in a clan?

I think the problem here may be that people who are in clans...do not care neither for it nor it's members. Or cannot really "help" each other, which should be the point of a clan, not only points. Except in, let's say, BR. Notice that the folks in there are all fairly active on the site's chat, forums, all around. They also have the resources to help each other, in terms of experience, hard cash, and equipment. Makes em work as a team. But it's not the clan system that enables them to do that. It's the fact that they feel involved on CB, and their clan. It's the fact they have a "clan stash" or sorts.

So...No1: an overall increase of people's activity is the key, so that they learn to interact with one another. Encouraging comradeship will not be attained by making clans bigger. I've had plenty of 12, people clans, full of newbies, and even when I talk to them, they won't respond. There's gotta be some incentive to exchange with clanmates. With CB. That starts with chat and the forums. Make people want to talk. (Yeah, yeah, I know, I don't talk much myself, but it's because I post so freaking slowly the discussion is already ten miles ahead of me.) I don't want to go through the specifics of a user-distributed Karma system for the forums, but it's an idea I like very much.

No2: Complementary to No1, there needs to be a point to clanfighting. That, is "teamwork". Clans at the moment have none of that, apart from equipment rents and strat advice. I, as an example, have no way of helping newbies with equipment, nor can I with strat advice, as I suck at it. Clanmates are single entities in CB clans. Unlike most mmorpgs, where they work as a team, to, let's say, bring down a monster by hitting it all at once. SYNERGY between team members is needed to make clans cool. How can you achieve this in CB? My ears are bleeding from thinking about how.

Anyway, to sum it up, I think clans do not need increased PR limits, or more members. They need:

-Involvement.
-Synergy between members. (Clan mechanics need to change to enable this)

private clan forums...

One girl? Lol? Yeah, let's give guys more reason to start pretending they're girls. As if they don't do it enough on CB.

Free transfer fee within the clan (and its members). Additional benefit for helping out clan members. Please? Please?

P.S: Extended feature = works also if you are comrades :P

I had submitted an idea a while back regarding actual "clan fighting", whereby you have a battle of all of your clan's members against all of another clan's members. You could even have Clan BA that allows these fights to take place.

To do it fairly, though, you'd have to have alot more control over who's allowed in which clans.

Phrede June 12 2008 6:14 PM EDT

Thats the best suggestion yet m8

Hakai [Aye Phelta Thi] June 12 2008 7:11 PM EDT

Hah, you'll never get girls! TDC has a monopoly on them, lol... ^_^

Eurynome Bartleby [Bartleby's] June 12 2008 7:12 PM EDT

Girls are a myth! Stop confusing people!

TheHatchetman June 12 2008 8:42 PM EDT

"Free transfer fee within the clan (and its members). Additional benefit for helping out clan members. Please? Please?"

This would save TDC millions! :P

TheHatchetman June 12 2008 8:47 PM EDT

and as far as the monopoly goes, NSAID has a higher percentage of females... :P
