AMF reduces magic damage as well as dealing damage back to the caster.

GA: Guardian Angel. Look at this way: when somebody attacks you, your Angel picks up their attack and throws it back at them. So if they shoot you with an arrow they get their arrow back. If they hit you with a fireball they get it back.
The GA itself may be magic, but there's no reason to make the damage magic.

However on a serious note: from the 'official' description: "GA damage type is the same as that for which GA is retaliating."
That's been heavily disputed, but I can't think of a thread with a complete attempt to confirm it is in fact a separate kind of damage altogether.
Nov - Duke did a lot of work in that area. I forget his results.
