Team Trivia! Coming soon to a chat room near you (in Contests)

Details aren't fully worked out yet, just wanted to let everyone know it will happen eventually, and give everyone a chance to know about it in advance.

If you're not familiar with trivia in general, look here.

Details I've worked out thus far:

• For now, teams will be limited to 2 people. So, its actually more like partner trivia. If all goes well the first time around, I will allow teams of more people.
• Every player may answer questions, and any points they earn will go towards their team score. The team with the highest score will earn the pot, divided evenly between members.
• You may communicate with your partner during the game, through PM or whatever medium you prefer. "Team Trivia" would be kind of lame if you weren't allowed to do this.
• You may only communicate with your partner. Just like with every other game, getting help from others outside the game is not allowed. I realize I have absolutely no way to monitor this, but it's still not allowed! Just in case you get caught or anything...

Still thinking of other possible exploits and things. If you think of anything, or have any other miscellaneous suggestions, let me know in this thread! As I said in the beginning, I haven't quite worked everything out, nothing is set in stone yet.

Also, feel free to use this thread to start forming your teams. Your teams must be formed before we play.

Sounds good! I like it. Also an idea, it could be more like a Jeopardy game in which you don't guess, you have to hit a button (in this case, just type a space and press enter or something) in order to give your answer. If you simply say the answer without "buzzering in", whoever buzzers in first can steal the answer. Also something to consider about the buzzering: if they get the answer wrong you might subtract half a point or something to stop the whole "let's throw random words out in the open in hopes that one might be right!" thing that we have going on with NS's game show.

Can't believe I never thought of the buzzer thing before. That's a good idea. Probably won't use it for the partner Trivia, but I might give it a try in a future Trivia game.

Err, also, what are your thoughts about Lord of the Rings / Tolkien-mythology themed questions? Or just themed questions, in general? And why is "themed" flagged as misspelled?

I think the buzzer sounds like a pain. I like the way trivia has been running.

Personally, I'd also much prefer general trivia. Unless it's going to be math/science themed. Any theme just seems like it would create an unfair advantage though.

I agree with general. And please god no CB themed questions, I have NO chance.

No no no, I don't know squat about CB either :-P

But alright, I guess if the majority would rather stick with general trivia, I'll keep it that way.

I like the idea of themes every once in a while.


Besides, everyone has an advantage in SOME category, that's just how life works.

Well we've got 2 teams, thats 4 players. If nobody else wants to play, I guess thats enough people... I was kind of hoping for more, though.
