Idea: Make NCB Applicable To Existing Characters (in General)

Sacredpeanut June 28 2008 10:07 PM EDT

The biggest argument against the NCB seems to be that it creates "disposable" characters where if someone wants to compete for the top spot they must throw away their current character and make a new one.

The "rolling bonus" seems to be the most popular suggestion but Jon doesn't like it because it rewards laziness to a certain extent.

My suggestion is to allow the NCB to be applied to current characters.

The NCB% and BA costs would be reduced depending on the character's MPR relative to the top characters MPR. For example if the top team's MPR is 4 million, a 2 million MPR team would receive 0.5 * NCB% while a 1 million MPR team would receive 0.75 * NCB%. The NCB% would remain fixed over the four month NCB like it is now.

I don't believe this rewards laziness because a character still needs to use all available BA over the four month period to get near the top - lust like an NCB character does now.

Thoughts?

OCB ?

I'm actually around 3Mish VPR...so I'd only need 25% of NCBA cost and NCB%?

I'd probably be able to afford keeping this on full-time. Has to stop near the upper end.

So, last I saw, a NCB receives a 468% bonus. This would mean that someone at 50% of Ranger's MPR would receive a 234% bonus over 4months? Where as IA would receive a 351% percent bonus. And with as old as Sarah is, shouldn't we get her back on her feet?

I do agree that older characters need a way to get back on their feet. (See: Hejin.) However, I don't think this is the way to do it.

Besides, the idea behind rolling bonus is that you can only gain by a certain amount, no ever-increasing bonus....with this you'll see everyone using the OCB to get right up to the top within 4 months. It'd be like a super powerful rolling bonus, and if Jon doesn't want the weaker one that he finds to be lazy, he sure won't want the more powerful one...

What happens when the bonus expires? Can you renew it or do you have to wait some time before you can use the bonus again? What about NUBs? Can they use this once their NUB bonus is up or again wait some period of time?

This would also require another NCB rework, seeing as the current rate is actually well over what you'd need to take the top and move well beyond, if not for the deadzone...

Basically, Flamey could battle his way through the deadzone into 6/20, then activate the NCB, and be off like a shot at a strong pace to number zero (yup, even higher than 1!).

But then, say the N*B gets reworked, now, anyone starting a fresh char is shafted and getting a largely undersized bonus... You could rework the NCB when applied to a char, but it would have to take current MPR, and the scores of potential opponents into play to keep it from being abusable...

Basically, in a year, we'll all be 6m MPR+ and;
1) Since we'll all be so big, 10m XP difference will be relatively small... so XP doesn't matter
2) Just about anyone can hit 90% of their BA or more now, so dedication doesn't matter
3) All items are readily available, and tats would be even simpler to grow to insane levels, so items don't matter
4) Massive net worth is now foiled via encumbrance, so net worth doesn't matter
5) General threads would be even more full of people complaining that their rock wasn't beating an opponents paper than there are now, since that's the only thing left to discuss...

Did I leave anything out? :P

Perfect, Hatch. Although I've had a few pints... and by a few I mean too many. However, I agree. This idea (while good intentioned) is ridiculous. It just couldn't happen... ever.

And I mean this in a good way. I'd love to have double NCB characters... but it would just expedite the process of re-scales (if ever applicable)... and other bad things that Hatch mentioned.

Cheers! =)
