Strategy Help? (in General)

I was considering a strategy that I have not seen and I was wondering of its viability.

Minion 1
Evasion
Magic Missile

Minion 2
Junction
Low-level DD for familiar to be put in front
Anti-Magic Field
Ablative Shield
Ice Familiar

The 1st Minion will take the hits, but dealing damage as well.
The Ice familiar will therefore reach the melee rounds, being able to dish out good damage with his CoC. Hopefully the Magic Missile takes out a minion or severely damages one, so the Ice Familiar has a more concentrated damage.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

My strategy has this same basic idea but different DD's.
I would use and Electric Familiar if I were you.

Electric Familiar is good Single target damage, should I then use CoC or MM on the trained minion?

How about fireball? You're expecting your first minion to die first and possibly even before melee begins. Thus, he will get all the advantages of FB without the harmful multi-minion side effects. 'Sides, if melee comes, SG will easily clean everything else up.

I imagine you'll be wearing mage-enhancing items on Minion 1, right? It might make more sense to put the familiar and junction on Minion 1, then. Ultimately, ice familiar is another mage, so you want to have one set of mage items max out two mages. Evasion, then, would end up on Minion 2.
