What type of graphics in CB would work? (in General)
This is more of a "wouldnメt it be cool if" kind of post. I would assume a few people have though about this, Creating a stand alone or built-in flash or Java mod that would play out the fights. It would have limited options in regards to spells and the different number, size, shape of the Toons that act out the fights. Not much really goes on in term of basic fighting.
Making it something that just reads the battle log and plays it out after the fight happens, it would be pretty much instant, click fight and it starts fighting.
Since it could be acting out what happens on the battle log, bandwidth would only be reduced, the initial loading of the window via CB server or a stand alone mod you turn on when you login. It would take 5-15 seconds to run out the different rounds of combat.
I can fight 5 opponents in 10 seconds as is now, but I fight the same 5-10 people over and over.It would only load once when you log in and would only stretch the time needed to go true BAs
I have no idea how much time or how skilled and knowledgeable a programmer would have to be to make it happen.
-It could have a chessboard layout with the camera above at an angle, your standard above view scenario.
-The number of minions would determine the size of the characters, 1 minion would be 100 pixels high (just using as a random pixel reference) vs. a 4 minion team of 25 pixels each, and so forth with each other possible scenario 1 vs. 2 vs. 3 vs. 4 = 100 vs. 75 vs. 50 vs. 25 respectively.
-Having theme cast enchantment on each other and the opponent and maybe move in a few steps as the fight goes from ranged to melee.
-Basic models for armor and weapons. At this point the fighting engine would be create and the eye candy can be added at later times I guess.
Is this blasphemy? Does this go against everything CB stands for? Would having a few graphics only be the fist step to total chaos and the destruction of the universe?
Maybe so, but I think it would be cool to see little fireballs and arrows fly and axes and sword swing.
Didn't read a word but the title. And to answer that, I think char pics and user portraits would work great. Once we can get those implimented, CB's good to go without any further modification ^_^

Here's the reader's digest version: No.
Here's the developed version. I'd bet money that this will never be done. Here are some reasons why:
1) Decent art will cost money
2) People want to burn through BA fast, not slow
3) It would increase the load time of a page
4) This is a text-based game, and we're already pushing it with the current graphics.
5) If Jonathan refuses to do themes any long, I doubt he'll want battle animations.
6) Jonathan has refused to do themes any longer.

That "No" meant that graphics, especially battle animations, is a "no."
As long as it was just a stand alone app that you fed fight logs into via a GM script or plug-in I'd be alright with it...
wait what... when did Jon say no to themes...

"wait what... when did Jon say no to themes... "
not to be redundant, but...
""wait what... when did Jon say no to themes... " "
I had the blue one but now it's gone.
Or, in modern parlance: CB 15 4 peepel like can red.
I didn't know we had a knew log in page.
Yes i would never think that john would add anything to the game, but a stand alone app that acted out the battle log without requiring anything from the CB server would be cool.

When I read this, what comes to my mind is the 'AdventureQuest' style flash animation. Stand-alone from the game, of course.
The chess-style thing would be interesting, as well....or perhaps the standard turn-based RPG party view.
I don't think it is blasphemy, so long as it was stand-alone and optional. It'd help new players to understand what was actually going on, that's for certain.
...however, I doubt we've got anyone around capable of doing so and with the time to spare to do so for free. ;)
We all know how the "I want to make CB better by..." tread go over.
Having something 2D vs. 3D would probably reduce the effort by alot.
I run out of BA 20 or more times a day, slowing the process down a bit for some eye candy wouldnt bother me at all.

I want graphic novel graphics. Like a play-by-play comicbook version of the fight! Instead of Minion A misses, have some dude dodge another guy's earth-shattering blow. Instead of Magic Missile'd for 1,000,000 damage, have a picture of some guy being blasted with blue energy and popping red digits above his head to call out the damage. And recruit like fifteen different artists to have different variations of the scenes. Graphics any less epic wouldn't be suitable for CB.
Stick men!
They answer is stick men, check back in a few years brb

I would have assumed Jon announced the "no more themes" thing. Anyways, he said that no other games have themes, and the reason for that was because it's a "terrible time investment to support them." I wanted themes, but since Jon says no, it's no. If you want themes, don't bug me, go bug Jon =P

Jon, I can haz themes!? PWEASE!?
On a serious note, themes always gave a bit of... personality to my CB experience. Picking one that fit my mood and nature and... I don't know. I miss them. They were fun and kept things fresh/
