Is complaining all the world is capable of? (in Off-topic)

TheHatchetman August 9 2008 9:04 PM EDT

Front page of my newspaper today had an article where people (the consumers) were complaining about gas stations offering discounts of up to 10 cents a gallon for those who pay with cash...

Again, they were complaining about the ability to PAY LESS FOR GAS... Enough so to make the front page... ABOVE the Olympics article i didn't read... I mean seriously, gas prices are finally starting to sink a little after a new record high was being set every few days to a week. Then people are given a way to pay less by using cash. And they want to complain...

CASH MONEY IS OVERPOWERED.

I want to complain about Americans complaining about petrol prices.

Then I want to complain about Americans calling petrol, "gas".

BadFish August 9 2008 9:12 PM EDT

How come everyone has to complain so much? I don't LIKE it. I don't WANNA hear other people complain. It's so ANNOYING! Make it stop, now! WAAAAAAHHHH

that sounded like an attack but it wasn't, it's just me being a goon

Yes.

You may not really care, but charging a lower cash price to consumers is against the terms of service that businesses have to agree to in order to do business with credit card companies (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, etc).

But yeah, there is way too much complaining about gas prices, we still have some of the cheapest in the world.

"CASH MONEY IS OVERPOWERED."

Not as much as you would think Slayer... Our crumbling economy has managed to hit most families extremely hard... I say "most" because not even an awful president combined with an unnecessary war and a horribly balanced budget can hit evasion... :P

Speaking of economy, Iraq (Y'know, that place halfway across the world that we've been sending countless troops and money to...) apparently now has an 80 billion dollar budget surplus...

@G, I would like to complain about you guys and your centimeters... Do you have any idea how annoying it is trying to screw a 2cm bolt with a 7/8" bit? Inches, feet, and miles are the way to go... Proof? I needed to type letters to convey centimeters, not necessary when speaking of inches ^_^`

I go somewhere on foot. Takes three hours.

I go there in my car, takes 15 minutes.

Saved 2 hours and 45 minutes. How much do I make in that time right now, with my (considered minimal here) salary of 9 dollars an hour?

About 25 dollars. It does not cost that much to cover the distance I just travelled. Far from it. That makes me think that while gas companies are screwing us over (they could live with alot less of the cash they make), the time saved-to-money ratio is reasonable. At least it is, here in Canada.

Eurynome Bartleby [Bartleby's] August 9 2008 9:39 PM EDT

Oh, and yeah, I forgot to add that this is why I think people exagerate a bit when complaining about gas prices.

Most of the time, a one-time trip to the city (when living in a rural are), once a week, is enough to get all you need from that city, or agglomeration of services.

If you already are there....use public transportation?

"You may not really care, but charging a lower cash price to consumers is against the terms of service that businesses have to agree to in order to do business with credit card companies (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, etc)."

Not true. It is against the terms of service to charge more to credit card users to compensate for transaction fees; however, providing a cash discount is fine, as both credit and debit card users pay the "regular price." Some might consider that a loophole, but that's the way it is.

We're complaining about $4.50 per gallon of gas...

I was in Italy. With the Euro conversion rate, it was about ~$9.30 per gallon of gas.

N0seBLeeD August 9 2008 11:10 PM EDT

How about the CB players who complain everyday about certain skills and abilities?

BadFish August 9 2008 11:15 PM EDT

That's right! We're getting overcharged per gallon of evasion! Well, actually undercharged, but whatever!

Goodfish August 9 2008 11:16 PM EDT

Overcharged per gallon of Evasion...?

...Buy a Dodge.

Bah dum CHHH.

Cube August 9 2008 11:19 PM EDT

I've paid 5.00 here in the US. Also, if you are in the suburbs you can do a significant amount of driving, not once a week. However, I still think it's worth it or else I wouldn't buy it. No real use in complaining.

I called the WAHmbulance, they were busy. And so is the stupid spell check.

Mikel [Bring it] August 10 2008 4:16 AM EDT

I have been car pooling for quite a while.

Usually I have 1-3 extra people in my car that I would pick-up/drop off every day, but it got so annoying leaving/getting home 30-45 minutes later than if they weren't with you.

But now, my neighbor and I work at the same place and have the same hours. So we ride together and it's not but only a couple of minutes out of each others way. And we were car pooling before the prices went over $3 per gallon.

{cb1}Linguala August 10 2008 4:42 AM EDT

I don't own a car and gas/petrol prices don't really interest me at the moment.
But petrol is around 1.50タ here in Belgium. That's per liter by the way. Don't know how much a gallon is...

Shidoshi August 10 2008 4:51 AM EDT

http://www.engineair.com.au/ <-- Once this is in full production, no more petrol woes. :)

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] August 10 2008 5:37 AM EDT

over ᆪ1 a litre in the UK now which in current exchange is somewhere betwwen $7-$10 depending on where you buy and the exact conversion rate.
Prices are increasing due to less supply, demand is increasing but there is a limit to how much we can supply in order to not deplete our supplies so quickly.
Countries like America need to hike up prices to the higher levels to seriously discourage the amount of 'local driving' and the temptations of the gas guzzlers to be removed.
But back on topic, the only people who will ever complain about this are the ones who cannot access any cash because they are too busy overloading their credit cards with crap that the cash they do get goes towards payments. Only those who can't have complain about a good thing.
