Multi: WL-Lord (in Public Record)

bartjan August 14 2008 1:42 AM EDT

rtytuyi returned again, this time as WL-Lord. I was informed about him a few days ago, but didn't have the time until now to act on it.
What's funny is that he just sent me a chatmail admitting he was a multi, and although this is his 9th account (note to self: I only found 8...) if he please could be allowed to keep this one. This after having this account for 6 days, and 3 days after I got this chatmail from another user: "WL-Lord has admitted to having another account last year. He says he cannot remember the name of the account, nor the password. I attempted to get him to speak with you or another admin about this, but he refuses. I have chat logs and screen shots if you need them."
Why initially refuse to talk to an admin? Why does it take 8 or 9 accounts before actually contacting an admin?

QBOddBird August 14 2008 1:51 AM EDT

He contacted Slayer, and when I spoke to him in PM, he said he was afraid to contact GB or SNK because he thought they were mad at him.

<OddBird> Why did you multi the first time?
<WL-Lord> ok the first time was because i was baend for an hour
<WL-Lord> and the first time i did not know
<OddBird> gotcha. And after that?
<WL-Lord> then the second time i guess was becasuse i wanted to explain to someone and then i thought angle of death was admin
<OddBird> alright. I'll post why you did it for you.

<WL-Lord> well i just want to play this game it always looked fn and i never had enough time to get anywhere untill now and i made good friends

He's actually really very sorry about multi'ing, and I've explained the Terms of Service to him. You just got the Chatmail from him because I was PM'ing him telling him to contact you, not Slayer.

Just thought I'd explain things out for him, as he cannot do so himself right now.

<WL-Lord> look bird
<WL-Lord> all i want to do is hang out with friends and play i cant start over!
<WL-Lord> i didn't mean to make this such a big deal!
<WL-Lord> i spoke the slayer...
<OddBird> I understand. It's the policy, however, not to make multiple accounts - that's in the terms of service - and I'll post on your behalf. However, since you broke the rules, they have every right to ban you if they wish.

8DEOTWP August 14 2008 1:53 AM EDT

Some people are slow. :)
Unfortunately, for him, Admins are not!

lostling August 14 2008 2:22 AM EDT

if i recalled correctly he was banned from chat for an hour

VivaPinata August 14 2008 9:52 AM EDT

He even had a funny clan name...

Hakai [Aye Phelta Thi] August 14 2008 9:55 AM EDT

I've been working with him for days trying to get him to talk to you. lol

He did speak with Slayer, but only after I told him if he didn't he'd most certainly be banned.

Blooderfly August 14 2008 9:58 AM EDT

... Wow... I kinda feel bad for getting him to spend 150k for a SF in the auctions... Poor money, being used by a multi. -le sigh-

Hakai [Aye Phelta Thi] August 14 2008 9:58 AM EDT

OB is correct though. He does seem genuine about wanting a fresh start. And I have dozens of chat logs supporting this. Far be it from me to tell an admin what to do, but I think he's sincere in wanting to just start over. Perhaps remove his NUB and give him a probationary period? *shrugs*

smallpau1 - Go Blues [Lower My Fees] August 14 2008 1:56 PM EDT

What was the reason behind his original ban? He was multi, reset, multi'd again and was banned because of it. So, why did he multi after he was reset the first time? Who's to say he won't do it again?

SBW August 14 2008 1:57 PM EDT

well give him the benefit of the doubt, i'd say. Hakai has a point... take away his NUB as penalty

QBOddBird August 14 2008 2:00 PM EDT

He originally was killed from Chat, which he thought was a ban. So he got another account to come get someone to unban him, but then he was banned for being a multi. Apparently since then he tried to make more multies to come back and appeal the ban, as you cannot really contact anyone in CB without an account...but since he was just breaking the rules again and again, he kept being banned. ;)

AdminG Beee August 14 2008 2:03 PM EDT

Show me the person who thinks I'm scary and I'll slap them around the head !

I'm a pussycat when compared to Bartjan. :)

AdminNightStrike August 14 2008 2:08 PM EDT

Perhaps in the future a ban should be followed with a chatmail/email describing what happened, what the penalty is, and what to do about it.

PearsonTritonRaveshaw August 14 2008 2:12 PM EDT

haha beee, so true =P
/me hugs beee

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] August 14 2008 6:31 PM EDT

Let's go back to the part where AoD is mistaken for an admin.

8DEOTWP August 14 2008 6:38 PM EDT

We should investigate.

TheHatchetman August 15 2008 1:40 AM EDT

just out of context...

"Perhaps in the future a ban should be followed with a chatmail"

...

:P

AdminNightStrike August 15 2008 3:34 AM EDT

chat ban :P

SBW August 15 2008 4:23 AM EDT

chat ban would give him no incentive to play the game. chat sort of takes away the game imo. take off the nub! that's the best idea so far i think

SimplyNic August 15 2008 4:40 AM EDT

"chat ban would give him no incentive to play the game. chat sort of takes away the game imo"

:D I beg to differ lol. Spent the last few days in a speechless realm and its actually not too bad.

SBW August 15 2008 4:46 AM EDT

then you're not enjoying the game like a vet yet. the game's about community :) without it, game sucks

SimplyNic August 15 2008 4:49 AM EDT

Eh my perspectives on the game have yet to change. Its still fun... Not really too much of a difference from carnage in most cases. But I guess its kind of one of those "you'd have to be me to get it" ordeals.

N0seBLeeD August 15 2008 6:24 AM EDT

lolol Bast, agreed.

And don't unban him... he brook the rules, why should he get unbanned? He broke the rules MANY times. And he should of read the TOS originally and this wouldn't of happened. His fault.

AdminNightStrike August 15 2008 12:04 PM EDT

SBW - re-read the thread :)

Cube August 15 2008 12:13 PM EDT

SBW, it was an hour long chat ban, and as someone that doesn't go into chat often, it can still be fun.

Lord Bob August 15 2008 12:33 PM EDT

"then you're not enjoying the game like a vet yet. the game's about community. without it, game sucks"

Uh, no.

[LittleRed]Calynne August 18 2008 12:47 AM EDT

This does bring up a very important point about being banned. There should be some way for someone who was banned to 'appeal' their ban without breaking the rules and making another account. It has happened before where people were banned for the wrong reasons...

I feel for WL-Lord. He didn't really have a choice but to multi.

Maybe there should be a function where unregistered people can post on the forum, so people who are banned can make an appeal without breaking the rules to do so.

Hakai [Aye Phelta Thi] August 18 2008 12:51 AM EDT

"Maybe there should be a function where unregistered people can post on the forum, so people who are banned can make an appeal without breaking the rules to do so."

This would be a great feature in theory only, I think. I mean, Dudley makes multi accounts often to simply come into chat and cuss out the OPs and Jon. Could you imagine if he didn't even have to go that far? He (and many, many others who were rightfully banned) could just come and spam tons of posts on our threads...

But I do think Caly has a point. Something should be in place to give users a chance to appeal. I just don't have the perfect suggestion. :(

bartjan August 18 2008 1:42 AM EDT

In some cases, some kind of appeal process would be good to have. But, how do we stop someone like crackmonkey from appealing, over and over again?

Mirick August 18 2008 2:11 AM EDT

Block their e-mail address? Filters?

I agree there should be channels for an appeal and I don't think everyone should miss out on such a feature because of a few people that 'we' are afraid will abuse the system.

QBOddBird August 18 2008 10:36 AM EDT

Bart - perhaps create a user form on the main page that can be filled out (hyperlink: Appeal a ban here) with your username, your email, and your appeal.

Then filter out everything dudley, monty, and crackmonkey. The forms would sit there until checked, and when an admin had the time/felt like going by, they could sift through by username and remove unnecessary ones, then check out the valid appeals.

Cube August 18 2008 4:22 PM EDT

^Wouldn't that be easier than having to ban people that make accounts to appeal?
