More effective way of fighting? (in General)

Is it more effective to fight over a longer period of time, instead of "burning" BA quickly?
Will giving your opponents' scores time to rise a bit in between rounds of burning BA marginally increase your rewards?

Probably only worth it if you retrained recently.
