Strat Talk: Anti-Mage (in General)

Dark Dreky August 26 2008 10:44 AM EDT

So I decided that since there are so many mages in the top ranks that the most logical choice for my next NCB would be to go anti-mage.

As I am not concerned with max MPR (I leave the battle for the top ranks to more interested and motivated people), I was thinking the best option would be to start multi-minion. While I have a pretty set concept of what I want to do, something along the lines of MM as the main damage dealer (as to avoid friendly fire and to get a head start on all those pesky SG users)

As I will want to save money and not hire ginormous minions later on. I am debating which set up would be the best to start with.

Here are some of my thoughts:

Option 1:

Start with two minions
Minion 1: HP, MM, maybe evasion
Minion 2: AS, AMF

Option 2:

Minion 1: HP, MM, maybe evasion
Minion 2: AS
Minion 3: GA, AMF

Option 3:

Minion 1: HP, MM, maybe evasion
Minion 2: AS
Minion 3: GA, AMF
Minion 4: ??? TSA Wall, maybe AS/DM (if I use an RoS), maybe a junction minion if I use a familiar.

What tattoo would be best?
Also, feel free to shoot your anti-mage strats!!

Well most mages you will face are probably single FB mages.

FB mage heads up vs a MM mage and most likely the FB mage will win it.

So probably if you want anti mage, you need 2 minions (for less exp dilution) to start with. One just training MM and HP (wearing AoI) and the other one just training 100% AMF.
And at a later stage recruit the third minion which should be that 90% evasion 10% HP minion, to combat those tanks and of course making sure FB spreads even more.

I would advise not training hp on the mage. Maybe AS, AS, MM, AMF with a base GA put Ros on the amf minion.

The problem with that is most FB teams have DM to cut GA down. So relying solely on AS for HP wouldn't be smart against FB teams.

Aye, this is a reason that an RoS looks very attractive for my anti-mage strat. It will reduce their DM to wasted experience, and having my damage dealer as a mage will also make their evasion ineffective.

Minion 1: MM, AoI
Minion 2: AS/DM RoS
Minion 3: GA/AMF
Minion 4: AMF

You won't need to train evasion because the kill slots that the minions provide will eat up archers. You'll be able to kill single minion archers, but you might have some trouble on SG teams.

Pizzaman hit the nail on the head. two minions, one HP and MM (FB is an option, too), the other pure AMF.
don't bother with AS, unless you want to devote another minion completely to it. if so, slap an RoS on the AS minion. if not, an RoBF (preferably) or ToE on the mage.
for pure anti-mage, don't worry about evasion, either.

Where single FB mages are concerned my old strat of two mage shield walls, an AMF enchanter and a CoC mage (with a ToE on the enchanter) works really well. The two mage shields (perhaps coupled with EH) and the four minions with ToE damage reduction reduces FB mages to the point that by the time CoC kicks in they've hardly scratched you. Leaving you free to do them some damage.

Works better if you build the single minion first to have a really big damage dealer. Then HP on all minions and AMF being the only enchantment. This also helps to make DM mages really weak against you.

minion 1 - toe enchanter with AMF
minion 2 - CoC mage (HP/CoC)
minion 3 - mage shield/eh wall
minion 4 - mage shield/eh wall

Can't wear more then 1 tattoo on each character.

If it would be possible I would go for the EF:EF:EF:EF combo

Dumb spell checker should ignore any words that have : in it.

Copy mikel.

NIG August 26 2008 12:48 PM EDT

Won't work, you need a large minion for the PL/TSA.

Solare August 26 2008 3:30 PM EDT

I'm a single FB mage with evasion. A team that would be most difficult for me to defeat would be:

Minion 1: GA, AMF (1/2 GA, 1/2 AMF)
Minion 2: AS, AMF (1/2 AS, 1/2 AMF)
Minion 3: HP, MM (1/4 HP, 3/4 MM)

As far as Tattoos go, I'd either go with ROBF, RoS, EF, or maybe even HF.

HP + FB + AMF = anti mage (well, anti SFBM and junction FBM)

NIG August 26 2008 9:45 PM EDT

If you want to go Anti-FB, ToE is your best bet.

Warbringer August 26 2008 9:48 PM EDT

HP+FB/MM+AMF+base GA+RoS?
