Tat Artist: nuked from orbit (in General)

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] August 27 2008 10:01 PM EDT

What positive effect did nerfing the tat artist have?
Isn't the limitation far harsher than it needs to be, especially for new users?

I understand Jon is likely to watch how it plays out, but for the time being I don't see anyone jumping to offer base tats, and the spawn rates have remained the same.

Was it that abused that it should be more limited than moving minions, or other defensive maneuvers?

Cube August 27 2008 10:06 PM EDT

With current prices isn't it cheaper? I know this could change, but it's not rising much yet.

Tyriel [123456789] August 27 2008 10:07 PM EDT

The problems are that tattoos aren't spawning enough for the increased demand, and people can't deal with not being able to change their tattoos on a whim, not cost. :)

Warbringer August 27 2008 10:08 PM EDT

I think a base RoBF just went for 420k.

Cube August 27 2008 10:13 PM EDT

It's also much cheaper to switch back, but of course prices could change, but the only really high priced tattoo was that RoBF. If prices rise a ton, Jon can always modify the spawn rates if it gets ridiculous.

I think it's a good change, this will increase tattoo prices (slightly). Makes tattoo more rare too! Not really a nerf, just means you need to go hunting for a base tattoo that you need, FUN!

RVT August 27 2008 11:07 PM EDT

Not fun

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] August 28 2008 10:24 AM EDT

I say we take off, and nuke the site from orbit. Only way to be sure.

QBOddBird August 28 2008 1:15 PM EDT

shrug. I didn't see it as a nerf.

j'bob August 28 2008 1:35 PM EDT

No, it's not a nerf. It's a pair of handcuffs! Especially the way people horde stuff. People cry and moan for a FREE RETRAIN cause we need to try different stuff jon! But now if trying new stuff involves changing your tattoo it's harder than ever. I don't think it's a horrible change per se, but combined with the current spawn rate and availability of base tattoos it's kinda harsh.
Ah well, we are approaching a change month, right?

QBOddBird August 28 2008 3:30 PM EDT

ew @ more free retrains. Please, no more of that crap.

And yeah, more base tats would probably be nice.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] August 28 2008 3:43 PM EDT

Why not make the tat artist the place to actually GET a tattoo (who would've thunk)?

If Jon wants a limit on reinks make it a fixed one (1 a month) rather than a financial one so people at least know the limitations.

I really don't see a benefit to having base tats be "rare"...

smallpau1 - Go Blues [Lower My Fees] August 28 2008 4:01 PM EDT

I bet all this is gonna do is raise the [Min Bid] price of base tats to 400k or higher.

ResistanZ2 [The Knighthood] August 28 2008 4:11 PM EDT

I agree 100%. The tattoo artist wasn't broken before, so why did it need a fix?

Flamey August 28 2008 5:36 PM EDT

How about including lesser tats? They already cost an odd 20-40k. With the change, that said price would go up a bit, or is that all too cheap?

j'bob August 28 2008 5:50 PM EDT

"I really don't see a benefit to having base tats be "rare"..."

agreed. Base tattoo's should actually fall from the sky on Mondays and Sundays and every other Wednesday. Tattoos aren't worth the skin they're inked on until they get ... BIG. And with the MTL able to outpace the actual tattoo anyway, why make them hard to get right away?. Do we want to encourage new players to wind up going much to long with a lesser because they didn't know any better?

And as far as what the base price might be, I'm not even overly concerned about that... I'm more concerned with not being able to get one at all.
Well, unless the base price is like 1 million dollars! That would stink up the joint.
