For those that may be interested, Google Chrome is now available.

thanks for the heads up

So far it seems like a decently fast browser.
I have noticed it doesn't like flash heavy sites.

it's a bit slow fighting BA... but I'm interested in the purpose behind it

I'm giving it a try at work right now. Seems very fast (something I can't say for Firefox on this particular computer). It has a very pleasing UI (nice and simple, just like everything Google does), but some nice features.

Example: Middle clicking to open tabs opens the tab next to your current tab, rather than sticking them on the end. Great for people like me who have multiple sites open in tabs and then open new tabs from each site. No more getting lost :).

You can also 'tear off' a tab and it automatically opens it in a new window.

Did anyone figure out if it's possible/how to make File, Edit, View etc. show up on the top of the window?

Timberwolf September 2 2008 4:18 PM EDT

Sorry Cubic can't help you there.

However, I did find:
Right click in the blue bar at top > Task Manager > 'Stats for nerds' link in lower left corner.

Cube September 2 2008 4:25 PM EDT

Also looking for how to add a search bar to it.

Oh never mind it already searches if you type words rather than a url

Seems like a rush job on this application.

Appears to have problems with certain CSS/javascript objects.

Obscurans September 2 2008 5:44 PM EDT

Most browsers do apparently, on their own engines

IE most definitely redirects you off to msn.com
FF is weird, try typing "blarg" and you'll see ;)
Opera goes off to google I think
Netscape while it existed, went to their own site

If chrome strays off google I'd be really surprised

Wrench Icon > Options > Default Search Heading > Manage

You can tell Chrome which search to default to. You can add or subtract any number of search engines to the defaults.

There's an addon for Firefox to make tabs appear next to the active one.

Tab Mix Plus for Firefox has an option to set that behaviour I think.

@tasuki

It was a rush job. They made a mistake and sent out a comic strip that talked about Chrome's features before it was fully ready to deploy. So they went ahead and deployed it. Not to mention that it's in beta.

For a first release it is not too bad. It definitely has issues burning BA very quickly for some reason.
