Week 2 Football Pool (in Contests)

PeterGriffin September 9 2008 12:30 PM EDT

Rules are simple, pick your winning team with the spread and total points scored for tie breaker game.

The spread is what the favored teams are picked to win by. For instance below KC is the favored team to win by -4 points if you pick them then they have to win the game by more than 4 points for you to get the win, but if they win by only 3 points then who ever picked the raiders will get the win because KC didn't cover the spread.

Just as a starting bonus I thru in 200k into the pot. And if anybody was paying attention last week I thru in 600k total into the pot for this contest. Come on guys lets get some players.

You guys are making this too easy for the few players that play, last week there were only 4 entries and the winner received over 300k and only paid 10k to enter, and he had a 1 in 4 chance of winning so it was a pretty easy week.

PeterGriffin September 10 2008 11:37 PM EDT

Holly cow... you guys are pitiful... 2 entries... basically free money.... I am gonna throw another 200k into the pot, so that now makes the pot over 400k so that means over 200k to the winner at least...

Close week this week... right now Warbringer is in the lead with 8 picks, but there are 3 teams hot on his tail. If the Eagles win or lose by less than 7 points than Warbringer will be the winner if not then it will be a 4 way tie for first that the tie breaker points will have to determine. Here are the counts so far:

IndColtsFan - 7
Pope - 5
Warbringer - 8
Zoglog - 6
Raveshaw - 7
Stingiestbard - 6
th00p - 5
Jiraiya - 7
R3X - 6
Mikel - 6

Kefeck [Demonic Serenity] September 16 2008 2:19 AM EDT

Looks Like you win warbringer I do believe.

{Wookie}-Jir.Vr- September 16 2008 11:29 AM EDT

I'm pretty sure I have 8 correct picks, not the above stated 7; possibly even 9.

To: PeterGriffin Sent: September 12 1:23 AM EDT Delivered: September 12 7:53 AM EDT
lol ok one more try :D Winners: Oakland, Tennesse, Indianapolis, Washington, Green bay, Chicago, St Louis, Jacksonville, Tampa Bay, San Francisco, Miami, Jets, Houston, Denver, Pittsburgh, Dallas,

Now, in order of picks:
Win/loss based on picks.
UD = Underdog team no spread to cover

FT = Favored Team

W - Oakland wins by 15 (UD)
W - Tennesse wins by 17 (UD)
W - Indianapolis wins by 3 (+1 over the needed spread of 2)
W - Washington wins by 5 (No Spread to cover)
W - Green bay wins by 23 (+20 over the needed spread of 3)

W/L? - Chicago lost the game by 3 points, 20/17... I counted this as a loss when tallying for the sake of argument, BUT the rules of the contest state that the team must win by MORE THAN the spread.. Quoted: "For instance below KC is the favored team to win by -4 points if you pick them then they have to win the game by more than 4 points for you to get the win," Depending on a response from Peter, I believe this should be a positive score for my picks, considering Chicago did NOT lose by MORE THAN the spread of 3.

L - St Louis losses by 28 (UD)
L - Jacksonville losses by 4 (Lost to UD)

W - Tampa Bay wins by 15 (+& over the spread)
W - San Francisco wins by 3 (UD)

L - Miami losses by 21 (UD)
L - Jets losses by 9 (FT +2.5)

B - Houston - Bye Week Teams: Baltimore, Houston

W - Denver wins by 1 point (UD)

L - Pittsburgh wins by 4 (Does not cover the needed spread of 6)
L - Dallas wins by 4 (Does not cover the needed spread of 7)

Now I did that also to double check myself, and to point out that I in fact have 8 correct picks, and depending on a response from Peter regarding the Chicago spread; possibly 9. If it was a tie, I think I lose though: I was way off on my tie-breaker guess! I also don't know how many points warbringer ended up with (depends on his pick for the Dallas game) So if it didn't matter anyways and I ended up wasting 10 minutes of my time writing this; good job warbringer :)

Just thought I would put that out there, feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken, I've just woken up :)

Kefeck [Demonic Serenity] September 16 2008 11:33 AM EDT

Yahh.. warbringer should get the points for the eagles game. Dallas won but the spread meant the point goes to whoever had the eagles. So that would be a tie. But apparently you were way off in your guess for total score. So it was close but i still think warbringer one.

{Wookie}-Jir.Vr- September 16 2008 11:47 AM EDT

(; Assuming Warbringer's points are correct. Also depending on his pick Dallas/Eagles; because if his points are correct, and he picked Dallas, we do have a tie, meaning he still has to beat my guess (although my guess was horribly off, it's still possible his was worse (; )

according to this warbringer chose the eagles. I could be wrong though.

{Wookie}-Jir.Vr- September 16 2008 11:52 AM EDT

I'm not here to argue assumptions. I'm just pointing out that maybe a "recount" is in order, considering my own points were off... and maybe a little clarification on the Chicago spread/game.

Kefeck [Demonic Serenity] September 16 2008 12:08 PM EDT

yeahh definintly need some clarification.

PeterGriffin September 16 2008 12:28 PM EDT

yeah I was off with 1 game, sorry about that guys, I had the TN game messed up, but with my previous count the way I had it done it didn't give anybody any points for the Tennessee game but now the results are in and yes Jir you had 8 wins total.

The Chicago game counts as nothing because it was a tie with the spread but either way if I give Chicago or Carolina the win Warbringer is still the winner.

I do make sure that before I announce the final winner that I would do a tripple check on all the counts to make sure, that count I thru up yesterday was a quick run thru not in any way official, but thanks for catching that Jir that does help me.

thanks again guys for playing and Raveshaw thru in 300k for next week so we have a nice boost for this contest, I will be posting the new contest in a another thread in a little while.. this was a close week and great to see some more excitement out of it, keep it up.

I am gonna post everybody's picks for this week in just a minute.

{Wookie}-Jir.Vr- September 16 2008 12:35 PM EDT

(; Nice speed! I always hate having to wait long periods of time for closure :D congratulations warbringer on good picks! Thanks for the clarity Peter, like I said no worries I was just making sure! (;

Alright I calculated my total via espn.com cause I was bored. And I came out to Oakland, Tennessee, Indy, Green bay, New york giants, jacksonville, seatle, Arizona, and the patriots. They were all decisive victories accept two. The Jacksonville game which they were favored to lose by -6 and they only lost by 4. So i think thats a point. Then theres the Seatle game they were favored to lose by 8 and they lost by 3. so that comes out to nine. Let me know if I"m correct here.

PeterGriffin September 16 2008 2:09 PM EDT

Ok the favorite is the one who they think to win not favored to lose. the Jags were favored to win by 6 points and they lost their game so the points really didn't even matter in that game they would have had to beat buffalo by more than 6 points to get the win in this game.

pretty much the way it works is you take the "Favorite" team and then at the end of their game minus the spread points from their score and see who the winner is after that. So for instance Jags vs Buff, score was Buf-20 Jags-16, fix it with the spread makes the score Buf-20 Jags-10, so Buffalo wins because they were the underdogs.

Your wins were these:
Oakland, TN, Colts, GB, NYG, Arizona, Pats, and Broncos
