Question on stat drains (in General)

Suqataqus September 17 2008 10:01 AM EDT

I'm curious about how stat drains are calculated exactly with the AxBow/ExBow done in the current round. Are the drains applied immediately, or are they applied at the end of the round?

The reason I am curious is I'm looking at how to stack my team. If the drains are applied instantly, I would obviously want my AxBow in the front, because the stat drain will help the minions that shoot after the AxBow in that same round.

Given the simultaneous nature of fighting (i.e. both teams are really all firing at the same time), I would assume it does not apply until the end of the round.

But that is a very good question. For some of the larger specialty bows whose effects are fairly dramatic, it should be relatively easy to tell if the effect is affecting the current round...

Originally I figured it was applied at the end, for the same reason you posted, fights are simultaneous in nature between the two sides. But then I realized that targetting recognizes a minion that has already died. If 2 minions kill off a minion, the other two move to the next one in the same round. That would mean HP is, obiously, adjusted on impact. I'm not able to taste very large AxBows at this time due to the ENC on my new char.

To test it, we just need the following:
1) A team with 2 minions.
2) The 2nd minion must be unable to hit the test target, purely due to a DX gap.
3) The first minion's AxBow must be fairly large, able to bring the DX gap between the target minion and the 2nd minion down in a single shot.

If anybody is up for this little test, I'd love to see the results.

As a side comment...my above post is a good example of why getting only 5 hours of sleep and then posting on CB can have terrible consequences when you don't proofread. Although "test" turning into "taste" was pretty funny when I read my own post :).

i was also unable to taste xbows once, but that was after using a zinc lozenge. : )

Actually, my inability to taste xbows is due to my tongue being seared when attempting to eat a RoBF. I figured if I eat the RoBF I would gain the magical protection it provided, and then trick the game into allowing me to use a ToE at the same time. Needless to say, the experiment did not produce good results.

IIRC, effect from drain is immediate and takes place that round for Exbow... Technically it would be the same for Axbow, but by the time you hit, your CTH has already been calculated. I was uisng BluBB's Exbow awhile back and noticed that the same round i hit in was the same round damage was massively decreased from enemy tanks...

So ExBow definitely affects that round. But you believe that CTH has already been calculated at the start of the round, meaning the DX reduction of AxBow won't allow a lower DX minion to hit until the next round?

TheHatchetman September 17 2008 12:25 PM EDT

hmmm... didn't think about enemy DX from an offensive standpoint... :P I was implying that you weren't gonna get a shot off of pure PTH and then have that shot lower their DX enough for more shots to come that round :P

Meaning, I have a minion with an Axbow and 500k DX... I attack a minion with 10m DX and manage the 100% drain that isn't all-that-hard to get with specialty bows with one hit based off of PTH. I will not fire extra shots this round even though I now have full DX advantage...

But to answer your question, I'm not sure when enemy DX gets calculated
