Scores need to be capped? (in General)
So I need definite answer here... If a low person trains a large chunk of exp and then has 80 mil + Score.... then attacks someone on purpose to lose that score doesn't that kinda mess with scores alot?
I mean I have been farming and gaining a Challenge bonus from Nemesis all because someone with 88 mil score lost to him once and gave him 10 mil score. I know my score will be farmed down but doesn't this kinda ruin things and leave alot to be exploited? I mean can't you untrain then retrain a low level char of yours then attack one of your targets on your main to give that target a much higher score which then in turn gives you a Challenge bonus that you wouldn't normally have... That's one hell of an exploit that could be and prolly will be workable if there isn't a cap put in place to limit how high your score can go by training.
I just want a definite answer on if it is allowable... or if Jon will make a workaround for it and fix this exploit before someone gets reset for taking advantage of this bug/exploit. For now I will continue to attack My 7 mil score target and let my score be farmed down with the cascade effect through the top... but I really want an answer and soon please.
Well I tried duplicating the bug with training and untraining a small char of mine... and I gained no extra score than was my max mpr... So I'm not sure how SK's char gained 88 mil score...

Score increase on retrain needs to be capped for sure.
As far as whether using the exploit is allowable, I would say not, deliberately exploiting bugs should definitely not be encouraged.
I did it with Snoogle to demonstrate that the new score system was flawed but I retired him as I didn't want to mess with the score system. I certainly don't want to be seen to be exploiting a bug as that wasn't my intention and I will unretire and untrain Snoogle as soon as I get the opportunity.
As far as the current situation with "Okay" goes, it's disappointing to see someone fighting others after manipulating their score as it messes with the entire score system.
Well it will help everyone in the long run but I don't want to come back in a few hours and see everyone with 10 mil + score... that would just be completely messed up... I just hope no one does exploit it anymore than fighting normally goes.

Challenge bonus 97% off of Nemesis
Exploiting bugs results in fines, people should remember that.

I think one solution would be to change the way score works, make it increasingly difficult to increase your score even if you are fighting high up.
No.. maybe cap it off, just on retrains.

Hard caps are terrible.
Let me explain what I mean. If you are 2000 pr and fighting someone who is 5000 score make it easy for you to get to say 3000 score but after that your score increases slowly. A soft cap of score based on your pr, so you don't get these ridiculous ratios. You'd also have to change how much score was lost by the other person so it's not constantly pulled down really low.

It was kind of an accident that I got 88m score.
" It was kind of an accident that I got 88m score."
i gotta hear this one!
September 27 2008 3:05 PM EDT
yes, please do tell.
September 27 2008 3:12 PM EDT
I untrained everything and fought once then I trained everything and that got me to 88m score.
September 27 2008 3:14 PM EDT
A way to do it completely accidentally and not on purpose ?
Untrain all XP on a minion with a tattoo on.
Then somebody else attacks you *and loses* before you hit the train button again, and you multiply whatever tiny score gain you just got by a huge number corresponding to your MPR (so, if you're at 2 mil MPR, you only need a base score of 44 to have it become 88 mil).
Yes, score gains *FROM TRAINING* should be capped.
One easy and relatively fair way to do it ?
Introduce a "highest score ever" stat updated while fighting.
Cap the score gain from training to that value.
September 27 2008 3:16 PM EDT
I had around 800 MPR and 216k score when I trained.
September 27 2008 3:17 PM EDT
Oh, so it wasn't really all that accidental, since you were the one that attacked :P
"I untrained everything and fought once then I trained everything and that got me to 88m score."
which was the accidental part then?
September 27 2008 3:42 PM EDT
how about a simple not losing any score through retrain or gaining score.... solves all these needless problems
that causes issues with people untraining and letting people leech score...
September 27 2008 4:08 PM EDT
accidental part was getting 88m score, i didn't mean to get a ton of score.
How much did you "mean" to get?
bottom line... what you did was intentional, and a known issue
I hope it goes ok for you, at least you weren't exploiting a money bug.
September 27 2008 6:05 PM EDT
I agree with lostling actually keep it simple untraining/training just
shouldn't have to do with score. You can easily gimp a character with a
Mage shield without untraining, so why bother changing the score with
it happened to me too all i did was untrain so i could retrain all of my exp evenly (which i did) and it jumped me to around 105m
September 28 2008 2:20 AM EDT
Already four 10mil+ scores out there.
September 28 2008 2:27 AM EDT
Well, it's not necessarily a bad thing... I mean, the top player should arguably have a score at least double his PR (not MPR).
Please fix before we need a server wide Rollback >_< Or at least let us know if this is a feature and it is acceptable to use this score "Bug"

Challenge bonus 100%...
September 28 2008 3:53 AM EDT
Since everyone score is so high i do get 100% challenge bonus too :P
with ROE on, i have to admit the exp is sweet.
This is not my fault, since my list is exactly the same as before. I am just a victim.
September 28 2008 5:59 AM EDT
logged onto this
Running an NCB is easy now with 100 Challenge bonus up to 6/20.
Sweet. Ow wait thats wrong isn't it? My score was never this high before and I'm forging? I do nothing and my score is stable above 3mil, mmm thats wrong isn't it?
September 28 2008 7:28 AM EDT
The high scores for everyone isn't my fault.
I don't think anyone should be pointing fingers... this just needs to be addressed before it becomes unfair that certain people are getting more exp and pulling further away from the rest of the pack.
due to the fact that you can accidentally inflate your score and the fact that jon hasn't corrected it, i do not think any major action should be taken against those who have been guilty of score inflation, intentionally or otherwise.
i was under the impression that having two people who could make changes might give us more immediate bug fixes. why is that assumption proving to be erroneous?
This kind of ruins the shot of any NCB or nub out there right now trying to get into the top 10 doesnt it? with all the top guys getting 100 percent challenge bonuses?
September 28 2008 1:49 PM EDT
It's only been a day; I'm sure it will be fixed before it effects anything to much. Also, I think NCB size is based off of current size not current growth rate? Not sure on that one.
Not everyone collects 100% CB in the top right now.
four days by my reckoning.
September 28 2008 5:05 PM EDT
21m score was retired and no one gained any score from that character.
the bug has been documented for four days is all that i meant. ; )
