An unnecessary /kick fest (in Public Record)

Well, today in chat we were just chatting as usual, and an OP tells me I have "retarded logic" and that he hates me. As many of you know, I give nicknames to people so I gave him an appropriate nickname and called him that, and he started kicking me. I didn't break a single rule. I re entered chat and started chatting again, which was met by another /kick by the same OP. Someone asked why I must keep poking the OPs, so I said "/me pokes the OPs" just to be funny, which was met by another kick. This continued, and other OPs joined in, and I was kicked from chat about ten times.

To be honest, I am offended. I probably wouldn't be offended if the OPs kicked other people from chat (who voiced that they don't mind being kicked). I feel like this was a personal attack against me by the main OP, who first voiced his hatred of me and then went on to kick me out of the room multiple times. Other OPs soon joined in and I was just their punching bag for a while.

I think the /kick function should be reserved for those that break rules. If an OP doesn't like a nickname, he should ask the person to stop calling him that instead of simply kicking him out of the room.

By the way, I'm not suggesting anyone have their OP status removed. I would just like the community to understand that this really isn't cool.

As I've said in the past, I will change a person's nickname or call them by their real name if they want me to.

You were told quite clearly that the op didn't like that nickname and you continued to use it. So you were kicked.


While I won't attest to every kick on you tonight being necessary, quite a few of them definitely were. And if you got kicked an extra time or two hopefully it will remind you to have some respect for other users and to lay off the insults.

Frankly, Rave, I understand that you may not be happy with how you were treated tonight. But honestly, you brought quite a bit of it on yourself by repeatedly doing exactly what the op asked you not to. You were not some sort of helpless victim who didn't understand what you were doing. You've been playing CB long enough to know not to try to be rude to everyone in chat and then play dumb when you're punished for it.

As for my part, don't call someone a cow.

First three kicks were done preemptive with no warning or even ultimatum. Rave didn't break any rules and the first three kicks were definitely out of line. That's like fighting a lion and getting mad at him when he bites you.

Godwolf, I know you've never liked me, but let's be realistic here. I didn't deserve to be treated like this. I did NOT go against any OPs wishes. Nobody said "don't poke me" or "don't call me that."

Oh, and I didn't insult anyone. If anything, I was being insulted. Yeah, I got irritated after the fifth kick or so, so I decided to say I mistook the OP for a cow. But really, I was trying to make the best of the situation and throw some humor out there.

Rave, don't get me wrong, I think you're perfectly nice. But don't get your feelings hurt over getting kicked on an internet chat room.

I wasn't around for the first and last kicks but I distinctly remember Rave getting kicked for mistaking someone as a cow. I didn't realize stuff that was harmless suddenly became offensive when said to a chat op.

For real, guys, you don't have to like Raveshaw, but at least treat him like a regular person. It's very immature to treat anybody like a lesser, regardless of your reasons. What happened to the mature and professional CB community...?

I think the PG rule helps keep things mature. I know I've broken that rule a number of times, personally, and I think it helps keep the game clean, which in turn (in my opinion) makes the community (and chat, mostly) seem much friendlier (or at least less hostile).

Rave doesn't act like a regular person, he trolls for attention and often gets it.

I'm the first person to try and make peace with anyone who can be made peace with. There are plenty of former attention grubbing kids who've become real players and chatters. It's Rave who has to learn how to jump the fence.

I've noticed this too, the op's are ABUSING there power. And kicking just for kicks and giggles. Which is pretty lame i must say.

I've seen Rave act like a six-year-old, but I hardly thinks that's valid reason to kick him. There IS an /ignore command, maybe people should start using it.

Just because you don't like somebody isn't a sufficient reason to kick them.

Op's aren't allowed to ignore anyone, nor are admins. They have to bea able to read everything that is said so they can doll out appropriate punishments.

Perhaps an exception should be made for Rave. :)

From my perspective, Rave was just being dumb. I'm not aware that's a /kick-able offense. If a chat op doesn't like somebody, just ignore them. /kick-ing them doesn't make anything better.

I think the chat ops need to find something better to do than mess with people. This is just freaking ridiculous.

Well I won't say alot about this as I hardly ever pop into chat, but with a very quick and brief reading here's what I get.

Rave- your sense of humor isn't always welcome in chat. Some people don't care, myself being one, However you SHOULD respect others wishes. Id they don't want your nicknames, drop it and move on.

Snk4r- I'm sorry to say, this line "<SNK4R> Rave, I'd just like to say you're an idiot. " shows not only poor judgement, but poor people skills. As an admin, i'd not only expect you to have the decency not to treat a player in such a fashion, but know better. Calling someone an idiot, then booting them because you don't like the nickname you're given is the biggest example of a hypocrite i've seen in quite awhile. I'm sad to say i've lost quite a bit of respect for you.

And I hold no hard feelings about it, cause I was also an active participant in said kick fest the other night...

And on several matters, Using caps in chat just to use them is a kickable offense. Just because two others used caps doesn't mean its all right for you to do so as well, Name calling... even if it is pet names, should be reserved for the bedroom and not used in chat, especially if the user you are referring to does not like the name. Also, you can talk less in chat, it does not hurt anything and you do not miss anything by not saying a word every other remark.

Trolling the chat just to get a rise out of someone is not a proper thing to do, you continued to poke and prod Snk after he kicked you the first time for the same thing... you were just asking for the rest. I will admit one kick I did was just for fun, but the second one was warranted... caps is not useful in any way in chat and should be kept from being used for whole words unless it is an acronym etc.
