Ranged weapon help (in General)

Archer October 12 2008 5:48 PM EDT

I've been looking into getting a new ranged weapon but not sure which one I should try to go for. My character is a single minion tank and currently using an assasin's crossbow, but not caring for it too much. So i'm trying to figure out what would be best to replace it with. The 3 top ranged weapons seem to be the elven longbow, mageseeker, and the sling of death. Which of these would be best for a single minion? Thanks in advance.

I personally think the mageseeker is best as it targets the strongest mage your opponent has.

I recommend using an elven longbow or sling of death. I would use the SoD only with some DM though.

The Mageseeker is pretty bad now that its damage level has been severely dropped. The SoD is in the same boat with all the RoS/GA teams going up. Stick with the ELB.

Yah, go with the Elbow, make sure you have some DM on your team also.

ELB FTW

AXbow - pretty pointless unless you combine it with moderately high DX and high levels of evasion, and even then loses to ptetty much any mage teams

EXbow - only useful against enemy tanks, but awesome againt them (especially after heavy upgrades) - can work decently even as makeshift melee weapon against tank-based teams (since they no longer deal any significant damage, you can take your time, and the crossbow deals decent damage in melee... IF you can still hit, that is)

SoD - good against multi-minion teams, best if used in conjunction with UC, but can work without it quite nicely too if ST is high enough even without any form of melee weapons (if you manage to completely wipe out the enemy team in ranged, or at least their damage-dealers)

Mageseeker - awesome against pretty much any mage-based team (might be less useful if the new "no armor penalties" thing goes through and mage gets heavy armor), not so good against tank-based teams

ELBow - good overall, but bad against heavy wall teams, especially if they have a mage somewhere behind that wall

Based on the fact that your main character is training junction, I would recommend going with a weapon that doesn't require Archery to be effective.

Also, welcome back to CB, seems like you've been gone for almost 3 years :)

You might want to start a NCB character - you get over 4 times the XP on it, but no cash bonuses and the BA purchase price is equally high.
Still, even like that, you should surpass any of your current characters in at most two weeks, without buying any BA at all, and be far, far higher when your 6 months of NCB finish.

elven long bow due to the 100 cth without dex advantage against evasion users.

I think the mageseeker is best used as a support weapon, when your team needs to kill mages quickly before they can dish out some nasty damage towards your team.

Thanks all who responded and for there opinions. I think I may go with an elven bow. And since my main character only has a single minion, there are only so many spells/skills I can learn...which brings me to another question. Figured I'd ask it here instead of making another topic.

My single minion character currently uses AMF and GA. I used this same setup on CB1 as well and it worked very well, but doesn't seem to be working as good on CB2, especially since direct manage mages seem to be a lot more powerful on here than on CB1, so am thinking of changing my strategy a bit. Any tips on what offensive/defensive spells would be best for a single minion character? Thanks again in advance.

this is not strategy help, but have you considered starting an ncb?

Archer October 14 2008 1:34 PM EDT

After careful consideration, I think I'm gonna switch my AMF with dispell. Since I do my best to avoid fighting teams with mages, AMF seems pretty useless. And whenever I do fight a team with a mage or 2 on them, AMF doesn't help much anyways since I still end up getting whipped so the choice seems to be a no brainer here. And as for GA, still thinking on weather I should keep it or not. As for the Junction skill, I'm not 100% sure how much this is helping my familiar so might change that too if it comes down to it. I'm open to suggestions and opinions. Thanks again.

single minion with massive HP and no AMF? hello base decay.

That is IF they can live until melee!
