Single light tank strat help (in General)

SimplyNic October 13 2008 4:06 AM EDT

Yea soon as my NCB expires, I'm gonna start up a new one.

Only the strat is going to be a single light tank character. But I'm not entirely sure on what skills to use. Any help would be appreciated :)

Evasion used to be a good one to use, these days I'm not too sure.

What equipment are you going to use? You could try just running a tank without anything other than HP/ST/Dex. XP focused can be far more powerful than spreading it across a lot of stats.

QBJohnnywas October 13 2008 4:15 AM EDT

Use a mage shield/ToA and HP/ST/Dex. That works pretty well if you've got some decent weapons.

Delayed response, but I'm going to be using;
ToA
MH
Either an ELB or SoD
EBs
AoM
Tulka's
HoC

In which case I'd still suggest the mage shield. And I'd use the ELB if you're using a ToA. You won't get more than double hits, but, unless Jon's fixed this, the penalty to not using archery with a bow doesn't affect ToA PTH as I recall. In which case perhaps train bloodlust. But otherwise as I said, HP/ST/Dex.

Any skills, like DM and the sort?

QBJohnnywas October 13 2008 4:32 AM EDT

Not initially, maybe later on. I'd see how you go without it. My last single tank only had evasion, which obviously used to be really useful, but otherwise I only had the basic stats. I was sitting around 2 million score with a 1.2 mill MPR guy. Not too shabby.

The thing to remember about tanks is that they should be strong and fast. If you haven't got that then it doesn't matter what else you train. Work on the basics and it'll take you a lot further than you think.

:D Kk. Thanks a lot ^,^

If you can do it, name your weapons. At a really early stage the naming makes the weapons a lot more powerful than they are in NW so it won't affect your character's PR and stuff, while letting your char do a lot more damage...

A named base weapon is actually X150. Which is pretty damn big for a character starting out....

Cube October 13 2008 4:38 AM EDT

X doesn't effect PR anymore, but it won't take up your ENC

Brakke Bres [Ow man] October 13 2008 5:53 AM EDT

PTH only counts towards PR, but the X still counts towards encumbrance.

From changelog: The full NW still counts towards encumbrance.

So don't overload that single tank. And best way to get a quick advantage for that tank is to get 2 minions from start, RoE that tank all the way and dump 400+ AC on that first minion, stop pretty much all the damage done by other characters at such a low lvl, after a time fire that other minion and continue as normal. Or keep it. Big AC doesn't carry that much PR

Cube October 13 2008 5:54 AM EDT

It takes a while to get the ENC for big AC.

Brakke Bres [Ow man] October 13 2008 6:20 AM EDT

Doesn't matter, its job is just to suck up damage, its only a base minion just 20 HP. You don't work with that minion nor give it EXP. Nothing waisted nothing gained.

Cube October 13 2008 6:30 AM EDT

AC is reduced by ENC.

Sickone October 13 2008 6:32 AM EDT

Single light tank -> we call that "archer" >:)

If you go with ToA single minion, that means low AC, and that means finishing the fight ASAP or else you're toast.
This means you want either ELB or Mageseeker, all weapon plus from the ToA, max out the weapon X only, get BG and ST-boosting gear (to boost encumbrance and damage), train Archery.

Alternatively, you could sink just about all XP into HP except bloodlust and max out your melee weapon, hoping you will last until melee and be able to leech enough health to stay alive afterwards.

I'd wait until the new skill comes out, since that may be useful to you.

TheHatchetman October 13 2008 7:15 PM EDT

light tank has no use for armor proficiency. If you're going ELB, go Archery (duh...), otherwise use nothing early on. being single and light, you want the ranged kill, so BGs are definitely preferable to Tulkas. Either way, relying on ranged damage for the win is extremely difficult to do down the line, as enemy HP, AS, and GA are growing linearly while your ranged damage grows not-so-linearly. DM will inevitably become necessary for any ranged tank...
