Religious Question. (in Off-topic)

So last night I was reading the bible cause lately I've been trying to be stronger with my religion. Anyways I guess i have a question.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

He also made the stars. God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth, to govern the day and night and to separate light from darkness.

This just doesnメt make sense to me. If you read, it is almost like a double negative going. First it says God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth, than it says, they were put in the sky to separate light from darkness. That just doesnメt make sense, why would you say they were put in the sky to give light, and than totally change it and say they were put up there to separate light from darkness. In my opinion it kind of seems like this sentence was just thrown in there so people wouldnメt ask questions. Like this モWhy are there stars in the sky thanヤ? Idk, I truly believe that God did put the stars in the sky, but I feel this was not really explained the best in the bible.. What do you think?

Two things.

1) the bible was written in another language, translations often lose the beauty of the writing and fudge things a bit

2) if you can't get past a simple logical flaw you might want to stop reading now and go back to "taking it on faith" as it just gets harder from there..

Yep. Nothing in that book is supposed to be logical.

Well, if you truly believe he put the stars in the sky...is that not enough? Go with what you feel man, it's what's important. Maybe you don't need the exact reasons. And a book can't give them to you as well as YOU can.

I believe in lots of things that are unexplainable and illogical. Not God, but other things. Karma, retribution and reward...whatever. I explain these to myself. Go with your inner flow!

That is my two cents. From a believer to one of an other faith.

I think it's just a matter of interpretation where many of them are valid. As in "God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth" being that we have a sun. "To govern the day and night" being that it's position only allows for a certain length of day and night. "And to seperate light from darkness" seems to be a subtle way of setting up/reinforcing the light is good, darkness is evil theme especially since it just restates the concept of governing day and night. But it could also be taken to be that without the stars, there would be no difference between light and dark. Without light there would be no observation.. no eyes... no cooperation, no communication.. everything would be alone.

Just my thoughts from reading your post. I'm fairly agnostic myself, but I find it amazing that life evolved eyes and ears to be able to receive light and sound. Even a sense of touch is amazing when I start to think about it. If it comes from my brain, how come I feel the sensation in my finger instead of merely having an awareness that my finger feels that sensation. I guess that just shows how powerful the mind is in controlling my reality.
