because of weapon costs, it is usually better to go with one big weapon rather than several smaller ones. most people tend to start with fewer minions as well to get one really big minion before adding others, unless you are spreading the xp on purpose.

like dude said small weapons are not going to be the way and to make weapons big is expensive so ask yourself are you willing to sink that much money into a weapon?

Well, technically, if you have a single minion team with a certain sized weapon, comparing it to a 4-minion team of same MPR with same XP distribution on each minion (just, you know, 4 times less on each), and each minion carrying a weapon identical to that of the single minion (except the x part is also 4 times smaller on each, but the + part is the same), you should get the same total amount of damage against a perfectly non-hostile target of negligible dexterity - 4 times less per shot at same chance but from 4 separate sources.

BUT

* you have to have 4 pieces of each gear of same NW (the only exception is the weapon x part, but not the + part) - so it's a lot more expensive... not quite 4 times more expensive, but damn close

* if any one of your minion dies in any round, your subsequent damage gets reduced (the single minion, well, he's either all in or all out)

* the reduced DX per minion makes the individual chance to hit any other minions with a higher DX smaller, further reducing damage against such targets

* you are VERY susceptible to enemy Ethereal Chains (each minion is hit with the same force, which is proportionally 4 times larger to your stats... needless to say, very bad)

Bottom line : single archer good, 2 archers not so good, 3 archers even worse, 4 archers horrible.

Well, 3-4 archers isn't necessarily bad if you combine it with Haste, GS, a Rune of Solitude, a bunch of elven gear, 3-4 corns, and variations in the type of ranged (SoD + EB + Xbow? + MS/Xbow?) and HP train all minions.
But if this isn't the case, 3-4 archers is a terrible idea, just as 3-4 small mages is equally terrible. 3-4 archers makes one susceptible to EC, while 3-4 mages makes one susceptible to AMF. So either variate your damage or change your strategy to compliment your lack of XP concentration.
