GoM and Mene Cape (in General)

OK, so this was a debate we just had in Chat a bit ago. The Wiki explains the GoM and Menelveblahblah Cape as follows:

# Each enhancement gives 1% extra Points to Hit to short Edged Weapons.

and

# Each enhancement give 1% Points-to-Hit to Edged Weapons.

Goodfish understands it like this:

Each enhancement is +1 to PTH.

(I have 500 PTH and +10 total in the gloves/cape, I have 510 PTH.)

I understood it like this:

Each enhancement is +1% added to current PTH.

(I have 500 PTH and +10 total in the gloves/cape, I have 550 PTH.)

Which did you think it was, and which should it really be? Here's my reason for wanting to know - I'm currently using +9 and +7 of the items with IDK's +200 dagger.

216 Melee to Hit

Now, if it was supposed to be like my explanation, then there's a bug where it caps at +100; if it is supposed to be like Goodfish's explanation, then the items...suck butt. +20 PTH with an acceptable cash dump, +25 if you really pour some in? Weak.

I'm really hoping they're bugged, and Jon made them to be more powerful than this, personally.

they are supposed to be from the land of suckish...

"if it is supposed to be like Goodfish's explanation, then the items...suck butt."

Correct.

1% translates into +1, or an extra 1% chance to hit, not 1% of the + on your weapon.

These are, in my opinion, the two most useless items in the game. Use Elven gear instead.

"1% translates into +1, or an extra 1% chance to hit, not 1% of the + on your weapon."

Wow. So, what was the point of introducing these items into the game? Is it another joke like the double chain mail or what?

QBOddBird December 4 2008 7:52 PM EST

That's what I'm thinking, _but_

Why would Jon say "each plus gives 1% extra pth to "short" edged weapons" instead of "each plus gives +1 to PTH for "short edged weapons?"

Ditto to the cape?

"Wow. So, what was the point of introducing these items into the game? Is it another joke like the double chain mail or what?"

Yes. Or as I like to see it, another slap in the face in the midst of the Evasion crisis.

Yep, someone asked this in the changelog, and they are just +1 pth for each +.

Rather useless now.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] December 4 2008 7:55 PM EST

Hardly... it was a balanced addition to a part of the game that was on the brink. If they'd been any better it would have upended things completely. Now that another hit means that much less, they do seem depressingly easy to ignore. Nothing like a DCM... from which the sucking sounds are impossible to ignore.

QBOddBird December 4 2008 7:55 PM EST

They could potentially be useful if they were actually a % increase, like my interpretation. +20 at 300 PTH would be a solid 60 extra PTH.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] December 4 2008 7:57 PM EST

that's a massive bonus OB... worth better than sixty mil

Lord Bob December 4 2008 8:01 PM EST

"Hardly... it was a balanced addition to a part of the game that was on the brink. If they'd been any better it would have upended things completely."

No, they were a joke. An extra +10 ~ +20 at the expense of AC, a decent weapon, and DX boosting Elven gear? Not just a joke, but a bad joke. And it still wasn't enough to stop high Evasions, so let's certainly not call it balanced.

"They could potentially be useful if they were actually a % increase, like my interpretation. +20 at 300 PTH would be a solid 60 extra PTH."

Yes.

Dudster4 December 4 2008 8:16 PM EST

so do the GoM give the bonus to my BoTh or what?

Cube December 4 2008 8:22 PM EST

Nope, but the MenC will.
