can you bs a rental? (in General)

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] December 21 2008 10:47 AM EST

is it possible to accidentally choose a rented item instead of your own and blacksmith it, or does the blacksmith recognize that you do not own it and disallows this?

Jersey December 21 2008 10:54 AM EST

yes you can bs a rental

QBOddBird December 21 2008 10:54 AM EST

Nope, doesn't even show up under BS'able items.

QBOddBird December 21 2008 10:54 AM EST

okay, maybe I'm wrong then.

The item I'm renting, however, doesn't even show up as a BS'able item. :P

QBOddBird December 21 2008 10:56 AM EST

(triple post)

...I do know for a fact, however, that you can forge them.

TheHatchetman December 21 2008 10:59 AM EST

i'm pretty sure you can BS a rental ^_^

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] December 21 2008 11:00 AM EST

heh, so given that you can bs a rental, if you have three items with the same stats and one being a rental, how the heck do you tell which is the rental in the list of items?

TheHatchetman December 21 2008 11:01 AM EST

try to loan it for an hour, i guess >.<

Daz December 21 2008 11:02 AM EST

Switch the one you want to BS to another character and do it there. Wait. How do you know which one to move?

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] December 21 2008 11:07 AM EST

the only way i can tell is by placement in the list of items, but that seems rather fluid at times and would likely be prone to errors.

TheHatchetman December 21 2008 11:08 AM EST

ooh! just thought of it ^_^

Send one of the items to another char of yours, then check out your disenchant list. If you can still still disenchant two of that particular item, you tossed your rental on the other char. If it's only showing one, then send a different copy of the item to one of your other chars. At that point, you'll either have none on the DE list (confirming that the one you have is the rental), or you'll still have a DE option (confirming you sent the rental away) :D

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] December 21 2008 11:15 AM EST

well bs doesn't show unequipped items, does the disenchant list show unequipped as well as equipped items?

AdminTal Destra December 21 2008 11:23 AM EST

disenchant show all items carried by the character regardless of equipped or not

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] December 21 2008 11:28 AM EST

since there exists already code to prevent disenchanting a rented item, why can that code not be implemented for the blacksmith as well? is there any compelling need for one to be able to blacksmith a rental?

AdminTal Destra December 21 2008 11:29 AM EST

good suggestion make a general about it and ill sign lol

Unappreciated Misnomer December 21 2008 11:32 AM EST

but what if i wanted to BS someones elven rental item as a secret santa?

TheHatchetman December 21 2008 11:33 AM EST

I've BS'd rentals before, back when i was doing the 1k /day forging things ^_^

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] December 21 2008 11:37 AM EST

yeah, i can see doing it just for a pleasant surprise, but they may want a base or near base item for their own reasons as well and that altruistic gesture might just ruin their day. ; )

PearsonTritonRaveshaw December 21 2008 11:58 AM EST

I've heard of someone accidentally naming a rented item, thinking it was their own! They had two of the same item.

{cb1}Linguala December 21 2008 1:13 PM EST

Well, as a forger, I might need to use the BS to finish 1 or 2 more x's on a rented item...

QBOddBird December 21 2008 1:30 PM EST

I would rather rentals remain BS'able,
but just some differentiation so it didn't happen accidentally would be nice.

Unappreciated Misnomer December 21 2008 1:43 PM EST

well how about a pop up warning you of that its a rental

Unappreciated Misnomer December 21 2008 1:44 PM EST

or an * next to the name or drop down boxes

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] December 21 2008 2:06 PM EST

so people are using rentals instead of item loans for forging? does that save on the transfer costs?

i am also cool with a rental tag in our list of items that show up for bs or even showing them in italics or somesuch.
