Download Festival Line-up

Announcements have started for this years Download Festival at the legendary Donnington and I'm already looking forward to June. Also think GL would be very happy :)

BluBBen February 18 2009 4:44 PM EST

There is nothing worse then not living in England right now when reading this!!!

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] February 18 2009 5:18 PM EST

Not sure if We're going this year mate. :(

One of my firends was turned off from last years set up, and sonisphere (that the name?) has interested another.

Plus the price has gone up to ᆪ160. :/ Bleh. All depends on if my house move actually goes thorugh or not. /sob

It would be cool to see Trivium. I don't really care for the rest of the bands, though, except for maybe the Crue...I liked their first 2 albums. Off subject a little, I'm going to see Maiden in Fort Lauderdale in April!

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] February 18 2009 6:58 PM EST

I got the early bird tickets which were ᆪ135 including camping.
And sorry but if you don't count Dragonforce then Trivium are the worst band there.
Sonisphere looks ok but I've already seen Metallica and Linkin Park at Download, plus more expensive than Download for only 2 days? no thanks.
Setup is changing again this year, complete grassy area and apparantly a lot closer to camp sites. Plus Faith No More are looking more and more likely to headline the Friday which would just be icing on the cake :D

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] February 19 2009 2:09 PM EST

Next announcement has just been posted and a big whoop! for ZZ Top :D

GL, please point and laugh at your m8 for what will be an epic fail in terms of Sonisphere :P

Mesoshort February 19 2009 2:19 PM EST

Where exactly is this at? I read through the site, but eh... we all know how I am -_-

Marlfox [Cult of the Valaraukar] February 19 2009 2:36 PM EST

Dragonforce isn't too bad... rather repetitive, however.

Ernest-Scribbler February 19 2009 2:56 PM EST

Would take more than the download festival to drag me to Derbyshire:P
I went once, but i am a little more of a Leeds/Reading kinda guy. Nothing nearly as good stateside these days for me at least:(

Wow, what an odd line up.

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] March 17 2009 8:30 AM EDT

Couple more updates since then and I'm friggin' ecstatic about the line-up so far.
Highlights of additions are Journey, Clutch, Black Stone Cherry and Papa Roach :D

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] March 17 2009 8:31 AM EDT

Oops and missed out on Faith No More's firzt show for over 10 years :D

{Wookie}-Jir.Vr- March 17 2009 1:10 PM EDT

Go to Wacken.

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] March 17 2009 1:14 PM EDT

Wacken Sold Out, requires air fair anyway and a pretty poor line-up this year

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] March 17 2009 1:14 PM EDT

*fare

{Wookie}-Jir.Vr- March 17 2009 1:17 PM EDT

The lineup is still better then download tho. I'm sure you could still find a ticket for wacken somewhere.

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] March 17 2009 1:27 PM EDT

Must just be preference but I'd rather spend my hard earned ᆪ on a much wider range of imho better bands, too many small unknown metal bands there. Only 7 or 8 I'd watch whereas already 15-20 on the Download line-up, value for money.

{Wookie}-Jir.Vr- March 17 2009 1:47 PM EDT

:) sorry if I seem negative that wasn't my intention. Just a difference of musical tastes I guess. 15-20 at download? I count only maybe 4 bands worth seeing.

Devil Driver
Dream Theatre
Pendulum
and maybe Manson

the rest of those are mostly just... snore...

I'm curious how pendulum (unless I'm confusing two bands) got on this bill. Drum and Bass doesn't really fit in with metal, although I would love to see pendulum haha :D

And before any feelings get hurt or tempers rise, I just never got into the whole nu-metal I'm so cool fad. Metal was already cool. Not to mention slipknot and korn sold out such a long time ago, it even appeals to my 9 year old little sister.

I'm not going to either this year tho I went to WoA last year (I live in the states so it's a bit of an adventure).

I would compare WoA's lineup this year as being far superior though. While there are a lot of "unknowns" this year, the "knowns" still make it far more appealing.

I would pay twice the amount of a download ticket just to see Amon Amarth play. That could just be the fact I really like Amon Amarth tho :D

Seriously you can't compare download's mostly nu-metal sellouts to

Motörhead, In Flames, Bullet For My Valentine, Lacuna Coil, DragonForce, Machine Head, HammerFall, Amon Amarth, Epica, Testament, Tristania, Nevermore, Korpiklaani, UFO, In Extremo, Napalm Death, Turisas, Walls of Jericho, Borknagar, Volbeat, GWAR, Airbourne, Axel Rudi Pell, Cathedral, Einherjer, Kampfar, Whiplash, Kingdom of Sorrow, Heaven & Hell, Tracedawn, Callejón and SARKE

Granted some of those bands at wacken are also TERRIBLE ... BFMV ... grroosssss but that gives most of us something to do all in itself because we can go bullet fan hunting rofl (Maybe it's just the power metal in me, but when I'm drunk... these trendy emo posers are just so funny in themselves that it promises many hours of delight)

But uhhh as long as In Flames sticks to their old material, the other bands would just have to show up to make it a better concert. I've seen in flames before they went soft, and it was one of the most amazing shows I've ever seen out of thousands... Gwar is always fun.

So lets recap because this is slowly getting long...

Epica
Tristania
Hammerfall
In Flames
Machine Head
Amon Amarth
Gwar

Vs

Devil Driver
Dream Theatre
Pendulum
and maaaayyybe Manson

...

...
...

Plus I keep hearing that Opeth is going to sneak into Wacken this year.

If I was going to either one, it would be wacken. Although luckily Neither lineup has me stoked enough to come in from the states... Gigan Tour and Sounds of the underground better deliver this year that's all I'm going to say!!! (Not to leave out my good friend freaknight over in seattle)
