Revamping the black market ? (in General)

No idea about you guys, but with far less than 100 votes a week, some items in the Black Market have basically next to no chance of spawning, and items that are needed take way too long to get.

What if the black market functioned in a completely different fashion ?
What if an item would ALWAYS be generated at a fixed interval (say 5 days), and the only thing the Black Market votes would do is determine the LIKELYHOOD of that item spawning ?

Votes would only expire once the corresponding item is spawned AND SOLD on the black market auction (regardless of whether you've won or not).
Tou get to have exactly two votes total, but they have to be for different items, not both on the same item.
You can make one vote change per week if none of your votes expired due to the item being spawned and auctioned.

No more random spawns in auctions.

Everyone gets at least one Black Market vote (more for clan members; supporters).

Votes never expire.

Dramatically increase the votes needed to spawn something. Say by five to ten times.

Perfect.

rares should stay rare...

If you had 1 every five days people would still get the same items.

Instead you should make it so that the number of votes required decreases as something hasn't been voted on in a while, and increases for auctions that have gone though. Make it dynamic.

"If you had 1 every five days people would still get the same items."

No, they wouldn't :)
You have two votes to cast, say you cast one for a Cornuthaum and one for an Amulet of Junction, more people cast votes for something else or those too or whatever, you don't change any votes even if you could.
Say the Corn spawns this time, and somebody wins the auction.
Immediately after the auction is won, all Corn votes for all people expire, and immediately after ANOTHER item gets spawned.
After that you can re-vote for Corn if you like, but the very same item can never spawn two times in a row due to this.

How about lowering the Blackmarket vote requirements slightly and having the votes never expire? It doesn't need to change enough to create a glut by any means, but some of the items are beyond rare. I feel that most of the effort should be in forging/blacksmithing the items rather than just finding them.

I never understood why Black Market votes expire.

I challenge someone to give a good reason why votes should expire after a certain amount of time.

'Cos we have a fat playerbase.

People will still only go after AoJ, Corn, Spellboosters etc. No ones going to vote for a Combat Gi still. Why? Because it makes sense those items are more expensive.

"rares should stay rare..."

Agreed, which is why I proposed my system.

Soul Eater April 2 2009 12:40 PM EDT

I agree blackmarket votes shouldn't expire or else stuff will never spawn.

There you go, simple solution. Hell, just enact the "votes never expire" and "no more auction spawns."
