I found this website on a forum, thought I would check it out. Looks really cool so far, I like the idea of the game.
I will read the whole Help pages shortly after this post, if there is anything else I need to know, let me know!
I heard of a chat system, but where would I find this?

Welcome to the game! Just post back here if you can't find something and we'll help you out. "Chat" is a Java application that runs at the bottom, but it may not be available for you just yet.

How do I get rid of this purple box telling me what to do?
I don't want to follow it and find it rather annoying, and I believe it is the reason I cannot get into the chat to ask questions.

That happens to be the evil tutorial. If you don't follow its not-always-perfect advice, you have to wait for it to go away. I don't recall if it goes away after so much time or so many fights...
