Dota Contest (in Contests)

Eliteofdelete [Battle Royale] April 17 2009 1:46 AM EDT

Me and Rexozord were thinking about hosting a 2v2 Dota -sdemom contest. There would be a 250k entry fee per person (so 500k for the team). Then all the contestants would fight in a round robin tournament and whoever has the most wins would win 1st place. If there is a tie the two would fight again and who ever wins would be 1st. The rewards would be 1st place 70% of pot, 2nd 20%, 3rd 10%. Hamchi is also a must. So post or CM me if your interested.

Rules:
VOIP is allowed
No backdooring (IE attacking buildings without your creeps, heroes are fine)
No MH or exploits
Map version: .59D
Team wins are determined by: one of the players leaving, team forfeiting or throne/tree destroyed.
If there is a lag out on team A, team B can choose whether they want a rematch or take the win.

I'm down

iBananco [Blue Army] April 17 2009 6:46 AM EDT

I'm in.

iBananco [Blue Army] April 17 2009 6:49 AM EDT

Might I suggest non-EM and GGC though?

Eliteofdelete [Battle Royale] April 17 2009 6:58 AM EDT

Sorry I am not aware of GGC....or maybe my brain just refuses to work after being up all night :). Also I am going to keep it easy mode. Non-EM's tend to get unbalanced really quickly which kinda ruins the joy of the game.

iBananco [Blue Army] April 17 2009 7:13 AM EDT

www.garena.com

iBananco [Blue Army] April 17 2009 7:14 AM EDT

It tends to have far fewer issues with latency and disconnects than Hamachi.

iBananco [Blue Army] April 17 2009 7:17 AM EDT

Also, is the starting gold going to be 603 or 2k?

Eliteofdelete [Battle Royale] April 17 2009 7:49 AM EDT

2k and ill talk to rex about the GGC, but we have never had any problems with Hamchi.

ScY April 17 2009 5:47 PM EDT

lol? non em games become more imbalanced if one team totally sucks and get rolled in lane because they dont get like 20 gold/sec while they are dead.

And why sd? rd would provide a greater range of heros for better lanes and more fun play.

I'm in but ill wait until there are more people before I send in entry fee ^_^

ScY April 17 2009 5:48 PM EDT

Oh, and only if its GGC

Eurynome Bartleby [Bartleby's] April 17 2009 7:29 PM EDT

I'm out of cash and not a very good player, but if you ever wanna do a non-competitive game, drop me a line.

j'bob April 17 2009 7:33 PM EDT

lol, i read and re read the opening post and am laughing to keep from allowing my brain to explode. i can tell they're all english words (for the most part) but when put all together, have no idea whatsoever what they mean.

So, if Ash does understand that gobble de gook I'll back him with the entry fee if he wants in. LOL

:D

Eurynome Bartleby [Bartleby's] April 17 2009 7:38 PM EDT

Haha, dude, although it would be a kind gesture, you'd totally waste that amount :P I play this game once a month. Scy does it competitively, and I'm sure the others are no noobs either. I also don't really know how to connect to games except on Bnet.

Rexozord April 17 2009 8:32 PM EDT

I looked at the Garena website, and while it looks interesting, I'm afraid we'll have to stick with Hamachi. I admit, the anti-hack software does look appealing, but both elite and I (and possibly others who might want to join the tournament) will be unable to access Garena due to port blocking by our universities. Hamachi should be sufficient for this tournament, and it's much more light-weight than Garena. I personally have never suffered any disconnects from Hamachi, and because of the method that Hamachi uses to establish the VPN (port tunneling) latency will not be a problem either (unless there's an issue with someone's ISP or computer).

Hamachi can be found here: https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/list.asp

Connecting through Hamachi is quite simple. You'll have to join the network for the tournament (we'll give you the name once we have enough people signed up to run it). Once you're in the network, all you have to do is go to the LAN section in WC3, and it'll act just like all the computers are in the same physical network.

If anyone has any other questions, please post them. Oh yes, and for those of you who have signed up already, you might want to consider who you want as your partner.

Rawr April 17 2009 8:44 PM EDT

Can't say I can play unless I know the time :/

{WW]Nayab [Cult of the Valaraukar] April 17 2009 10:53 PM EDT

i will likely be unable to play due to the complete utter uselessness of my internet.
Maybe in the next one depending on the connection.
good luck to any who try this though.

Eliteofdelete [Battle Royale] April 19 2009 11:11 PM EDT

Well, since its round-robin and with school ending and stuff I was thinking about just giving 2-3 weeks and let the teams decide when they have enough time to play a match. However, due to the lack of DOTA players, I don't think there will be a tournament. So far it seems like there is:
Team 1: Rex and Elite
Team 2: maybe Rwar and ?
Team 3: deifeln7 and ?
Team 4: maybe Bruno and ?

Marlfox [Cult of the Valaraukar] April 20 2009 10:09 AM EDT

You forgot Scy!

Eurynome Bartleby [Bartleby's] April 20 2009 10:26 AM EDT

I may be able to cover the entry costs by myself when the games begin.

I also do not care who my partner is, if anyone wants to team up with moi, that person is welcome. (But has to be ready to play for fun, I told you I'm average. We could be like, Team David. Or Team Cinderella? Oh my god, that sounds so wrong :P )

Every evening ( about 6 to 12, server time ) is open for me to play.

RywA [Dark Carnival Forging] April 20 2009 4:08 PM EDT

Count me in! and please enlighten me upon hamachi though I've never heard/used it before. Also, what's VOIP? I'm no noob to DOTA, expect some competition ; )

Marlfox [Cult of the Valaraukar] April 20 2009 4:10 PM EDT

Voice over IP.

Eurynome Bartleby [Bartleby's] April 20 2009 4:15 PM EDT

I am guessing you'll use Vent?

Eliteofdelete [Battle Royale] April 21 2009 12:11 AM EDT

RywA, I would read Rex's post on Hamachi. I will be making a hamachi channel once their is enough teams.

Team 1: Rex and Elite
Team 2: maybe Rwar and ?
Team 3: deifeln7 and ?
Team 4: Bruno and ?
Team 5: RywA and ?

I will officially kill/start this tournament around Monday next week (very busy this week). (Note the teams are not set in stone and you can pair up with each other if you like.)

Eliteofdelete [Battle Royale] April 21 2009 1:06 AM EDT

There seems to be some confusion about what I mean by starting/killing the contest on Monday. When I say start I mean the start of the 3 week time period you have to find time to compete against the other teams. Winner will be determined after all the teams have competed or the 3 weeks are up. If you don't play a team in the 3 week period you just don't get a possible win (losses don't hurt).

Marlfox [Cult of the Valaraukar] April 21 2009 4:35 PM EDT

You forgot Scy. Again. ;)

ScY April 25 2009 2:31 PM EDT

" Oh, and only if its GGC"

No, he didn't forget me-- I'm not participating.

After a few recent failures with my team, I'm taking a break from DotA for a while, which includes this tournament. Plus downloading and learning to use Hamachi, something I would only use for this tournament is a waste of time and disk space since I doubt this tournament would be much fun for me at this time.

Eliteofdelete [Battle Royale] April 25 2009 2:52 PM EDT

Well, I think I am going to cancel this and try again after school is over. Hope people will have more time then. :)
