Is this possible? (in Off-topic)

Perhaps it's just me.

But I found a legitimately good cover of an 80's song. Granted, it's by one of my favorite bands, but still... well, I puke when I hear the original but I love this one.

Unless it jams (this doesn't), I don't see the point in remaking an 80s song virtually in its own image...

Carly Simon has a unique voice. I gotta give her that. Don't remake songs with unique voices. That's my stupid opinion.

That being said, this band should concentrate on its OWN voice. I think it has a decent one.

Like this track, sut?

Indeed. Not bad. At least not derivative (entirely).

I don't mind a little emo, I just tend to like it in fast tempo. Usually with talk about drinking a lot. That's why I enjoy Alkaline Trio quite a bit. When I want (read: need) to miss a girl, I want to be a little edgy about it. Ben Folds can usually nail it too, though he gets a little too-soft or too-stupid at times...

I need to find a Bon Iver track for you -- be right back.

Bon Iver's voice annoys me. I can't lie. But damn if this tune doesn't haunt me. Expand the "More Info" for the lyrics. With his mush-mouth, you'll need it.

Alkaline Trio? I have a friend out in California who works with them twice a week (she's a PR director for Vagrant).

I really like Ben Folds as well, sutekh. I'm a total sucker for piano...

I'll have to listen to that track. I'll let you know what I think!

Chappaquiddick Skyline, led by Joe Pernice, did a nice cover of New Order's "Leave Me Alone" back in 2000.

Did I just write that? Or was it really Sut. Because it looks like me.

10 points to Sut.

LB, you are too funny... Sounds like you need to listen to some Alk3, as well. *smile*

How do these people get to work with such people! That's damn cool, fish!

And Thrak, yeah, everything you know of is awesome. You've turned me on to more than I can remember! Did I tell you how much Stars rocked The Pageant last September? Sorry to say they put staid little Neko in her place...

The Bon Ivers track is fantastic. I really like it; you're right, it's oddly haunting. His voice is a bit on the odd side, especially for that sort of music, but at least the tones are clean and not muddy or cracking.

"How do these people get to work with such people! That's damn cool, fish!"

I have no clue how she wound up getting the job. I'm mostly jealous because she gets to work with pretty much EVERY band from Vagrant, which includes three of my all-time favorites: Thrice, Protest the Hero, and HORSE the Band. Although she really likes Alkaline Trio (apparently they are a nice group of guys, and she grew up with one of them [!!]).

Saw Alkaline Trio in concert about 8 years, good stuff...speaking of old covers - Coheed and Cambria - Your Love
