I just discovered a new orchestrated band called Vangelis... they are absolutely beautiful if you love modern style composed pieces. I would also like to hear if anyone else likes this music and their favorite groups. :)

vangelis been around for some time..The soundtrack to the harrison ford film "BladeRunner" was vangelis...and we all know that tune that would make you sick from the movie "Chariots of Fire"..
Vangelis has worked with Jon Anderson from Yes many times..Also done albums with Demis Roussos..
"Albedo 0.39" and "Heaven and Hell" are 2 of his best works

his forte is classical based with electronics and lots of percussion

music similar to Vangelis IMHO are bands like
Tangerine dream "Stratosfear" οΎ– "The Big Sleep In Search Of Hades"
Synergy( Larry Fast) "Electronic Realizations for Rock Orchestra"

all good stuff have more if you want to pick my brain before it gets cold :)

Man I love the Blade Runner soundtrack...so beautiful.

Tangerine Dream are a bit less melodic, lots of repetition, but yes, along similar lines.

You could also investigate Mike Oldfield's works from the 70s (he did the soundtrack to The Exorcist) and Jean Michel Jarre would sit alongside it quite nicely.

didn't tangerine dream do some music for the movie risky business?

tangerine dream is more ambient than Vangelis indeed
if you want some early Vangelis check out the band Aphrodites Child..you would never be able to tell it was him if you didnt know it..but his typical menu of haunting ethereal melodic pads fused with electronic patched acoustic instrumentation was defined early
