Aion: New MMORPG (in Off-topic)

Has anyone checked it out? If not, do it up!

I am planning on playing when it comes out in a few weeks. Just seeing if anyone else was planning on playing as well.

Heard it was really bad, knew a few people in closed beta.

Some D&D friends of mine went to PAX and got to play it there, and said it is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, and that they plan on playing it. I personally haven't checked it out but plan to soon. (Can't really check it out from home // dialup :O)

My heart has been broken by two many MMORPGs :(

Maybe I'll try it if it gets astonishing reviews after a couple months. I'd really like to try ONE good MMORPG.

Aion is P2P.

Aion's PvP system is disappointing. It takes the WoW BG model too literally. In Everquest you PvPed over resources (pre-instancing). DAoC you PvP'ed over keeps which granted bonuses to the realms which held those keeps. What I am getting at is to me there is no reason to PvP in Aion.

That having been said.

I have a 41 Assassin and 29 Chanter. The PvP combat system is amazing. The one place where I feel WoW really drops the ball is that EVERY class can be a damage dealer. Also, it's PvP combat is entirely too rigid and boring. In Aion I get to dodge spell attacks, actively counter and avoid melee attacks. It's sort of like Everquest meets Street Fighter. In that regard it really shines. Is it a bit twitchy like FPSers? Yeah, but not in the sense that best reaction time determines the winner. There is a much deeper strategic layer to the game than WoW. Strategy + Gear means more than hair trigger reaction times.

You get wings.

It's all about the wings (and as such, I'll be flabbergasted if Cataclysm's path of the Titans doesn't let you unlock wings in WoW...).

By unlock GL means you get to Cataclysm, click your mount and are greeted by the following message.

"Your ______ wing's are unable to support flight in these conditions. OwwOww, it burns!"

25K gold later and you sprout wings from your backside. It's MAGIC!

The Aion display at Pax had a set of black wings you could pose with and get a picture of yourself wearing. I think they charged money for the picture though which was weird since I saw a lot of pictures laying on the table. Besides that, it didn't look that different from many other mmorpgs I saw there.. The Warhammer 40k one in particular looks like a total snooze-fest. I'm guessing the D&D one is about the same. Everyone is just trying to build the WoW killer.

My WoW killer has pirates, ninjas, samurai, dwarves, elves, humans, ape men, and bears.
All of which can become vampires, werewolves, demons, ghosts, Ron Perlman/Kate Beckinsale, or zombies.

You would like Darkfall.

After seeing (and playing some) beta. Aion looks like a winner! Very cool PvP concept.

Only problem I have is that there is no way to just stroll into the enemy lands, they are completely seperate (but equal?). I liked in WoW being able to just start trouble whenever you want!

Did I mention RIDICULOUS graphics? Because... yeah, it has those too.

Darkfall is not an option.

Nah, I mean the new anti grind EQ like AA advancement system. Coming in the next X Pack.

Run around, pick some dross up, unlock a rune on your max level advancement path.

Get to the end, get Wings to compete with Aion. I'm sure there will be wings.

The block that was Cold weather flying won't be needed anymore.
