D&D Online (in Off-topic)

Tyriel [123456789] September 13 2009 3:09 PM EDT

Fex mentioned that it has gone free in Rawr's game thread, and I figured I'd check it out. I've been a fan of D&D-based games ever since I played Neverwinter Nights years ago. I really like what they've done with it, and it makes me feel like I'm playing Neverwinter Nights online (which I love!). And they didn't put in ridiculous restrictions that can't ever be bypassed for free accounts. You can get access to everything that a paying person has just by playing a bunch.

Anybody else play it? I think it would be awesome to have a CB guild (if there isn't already one), and do quests with each other.

Link!

What's the difference between a free account and a paying account?

Eurynome Bartleby [Bartleby's] September 13 2009 3:20 PM EDT

It says that chat functions are limited for free players. Any idea what they mean by that?

I may be interested to try if we get a casual guild going, but the limitations on free accounts seem a bit unreasonable to me.

I may start playing a game called Rappelz.

Eurynome Bartleby [Bartleby's] September 13 2009 4:08 PM EDT

Rappelz is nice. But it's quickly becomes a grind fest, and is slowly dying. I suggest going there only if you already have arranged to play with friends.

Just my two cents though :P

Soul Eater September 13 2009 4:23 PM EDT

hmm I see well I am trying to find a good free play mmo that doesn't take like 3 weeks to level up

Tyriel [123456789] September 13 2009 4:31 PM EDT

Free accounts don't have access to 2 of the classes and 2 of the races. There's some quests that aren't available to free accounts, a limit of 2 characters per server, no shared bank between characters, and need to get an item to create a guild. There's also mini level caps (4, 8, 12, and 16) that you need to leveling Sigils (usually gotten from quest rewards) to increase.

Those are the major differences I've noticed, though they can all be removed by just playing the game. As you do quests, you gain favor. As you get more favor, you get rewards that you can spend on the quests, account space, bank, or things like special items. You can also get access to the two races that are locked (I'm not sure about the classes) by gaining enough favor on one character.

I don't know about limited chat functions. I haven't seen anything other people do that I can't, but perhaps that's because I'm not exactly the social type.

I've checked it out. seems decent but i haven't played it that much

Soul Eater September 13 2009 4:48 PM EDT

Dangit all the names I want are all taken.

FailBoat[SG] [Forever Alone] September 13 2009 4:58 PM EDT

So, I still havn't found the item to make a guild... Maybe I'm just slow.

Tyriel [123456789] September 13 2009 5:03 PM EDT

The item to make a guild is a Guild Charter. I don't know whether or not you can get one outside of the DDO Store. I'm fairly sure paying players can create a guild without one, should we have somebody who either will pay or already is. Other than that, I believe I have enough to buy one.

We should all get on the same server, too. If there's a high-level person already playing, then we should all go to their server for fairly obvious reasons. Barring that, I'm on Cannith at the moment, but haven't put such extraordinary amounts of time into a character that I can't change servers without really caring.

Well I found a name I liked from an anime I watch called Gungrave and I used BeyondTheGrave as my username so look me up on d&d online.

I got the name Freekenstein and i've been playing in world: Ghallanda. Ive been enjoying it a lot.

Eurynome Bartleby [Bartleby's] September 13 2009 5:19 PM EDT

I'll go download the game and then we'll see where I must create my char :)

Soul Eater September 13 2009 5:26 PM EDT

It says I need a key to login? Where do I get a free key for DDO?

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] September 13 2009 6:53 PM EDT

I tried DDO when it first came out, as I was at that time jaded with WoW.

It's rubish. The company that runs it is also rubbish. It's nothing like "The closet you can get to a PnP game on your computer", and only desires to be a WoW clone. Which it manages to be WoW-Lite.

What they wold have to do is get the in game GMs to actually run Instanced session, and make there some sort of consequences to your actions.

I don't want my Paladin to accept to go and steal a Gem, and have nothing negative come from it.

Eurynome Bartleby [Bartleby's] September 13 2009 7:00 PM EDT

I'm...not sure why, but this lags my computer a lot. Since I can play most recent games on high settings, I'm thinking it's a card compatibility thing. I simply cannot play that game, which is strange since it does not look good at all O_o

[Where Shirt]Freekie [Lower My Fees] September 13 2009 7:14 PM EDT

It is a little laggy but it runs horribly when i have CB running on the taskbar and fine for the most part when i close CB... i think its the fight feed(for me anyway).

bohab September 13 2009 7:14 PM EDT

I've been playing on Kyber

lostling September 13 2009 9:05 PM EDT

Soul Eater September 13 2009 9:50 PM EDT

cube.the September 13 2009 9:54 PM EDT
