Any wine connoisseurs here? (in Off-topic)

So I'm thinking of starting to collect wine with animals on the lables as a hobby and thought it would be fun to save them over the years for special occasions. You always hear in the movies how old bottles of wine are "good" or so expensive... but don't know really if that has to do with rarety or if it really improves taste? Also does it matter what type of cork is used, the plastic kind vs. the real cork kind? I haven't found any good websites yet, but was wondering if anyone had any knowledge on wine and the pros and cons to storing bottles.

Age usually refers to time spent in the cask, not the bottle. If a particular year is known or expected to be good, when bottled, then those bottles are prized and therefore saved. There aren't all that many varieties that improve with 80 years in the bottle and some that are specifically meant to be imbibed "soon".

Cork vs. plastic is still an ongoing debate. True corked bottles must be stored on their sides, I imagine this is not necessary with fake. Therefore you can leave them in the box? :P

Wine collecting is generally not about the cuteness of the label. Though if you are doing it for amusement, not investment, then just learn enough to know which varieties can withstand the extra time in the bottle.
