Ok I'm confused... tourney prizes? (in General)

I stumbled upon a FS/WTB thread that whined about tourney characters bidding on an item but I've never seen it where tourney prizes overbids someone in the auctions? Is there a reason for it? Why do that when you can just set parameters in the tourney for auction bidding?

because ceslis was a tourney participant none of you guys were allowed to bid on his item

You may not buy items via auctions from any player participating in the tournament, including yourself.

wow, that slap hurt! Thanks KO :) So instead of bidding, why can't the bids just be retracted and the players warned/fined?

Shade wasn't informed that I had decided to scrap the rule regarding tourney players and auctions.
