I can't remember where Junction and skills are at. Can we still get away with training a base BL on a 20 STR minion to junction the full effect over?
No, base BL wont work. You have to train it enough so that it will get full effect for the jiggy's str.
So Train BL, A choice of EC/AMF and Choice of ED (VA maybe?) on a single minion, and stick Decay on it (so the Jig goes to the front).
HG and EB for UC boosting. HoE.
Hmmm. I'm liking the sound of this. Would probably need AMF, as the idea would be to soak up Ranged physical damage to unleash.
Shame that 'uber' hit would probably go to waste on a 20 HP minion. So maybe FB instead of Decay, to try to clear the dross out before Melee.
Even if you'll take Freindly Fire splash.
Actually, could use a SoD over training FB. ;)
Trouble with single minion is that you use up your only skill slot with BL and a jiggy without junctioned UC or additional HP backup will die in ranged almost assuredly. Best use of a single minion jiggy setup I have seen though that is like that is Elven Kings.

BL in the wiki works with Physical Damage in Melee.
Does it require a Melee Weapon? Or will you get BL applied to Ranged Physical Weapons in the Melee rounds?
just melee weapon. I am not 100% certain, just 99% that it only works with a melee weapon just like VA only works with a melee weapon and not a ranged weapon being used in melee.
Its not like ranged weapons need BL once they get to melee anyways though. They get a 40% damage increase once they hit melee.
Let me correct that. Its a 67% increase in damage once they hit melee. Its because it is actually a 40% penalty throughout ranged.

Bloodlust only applies to melee weapons in melee rounds - which includes UC.
I have some vague recollection of CB1 letting bloodlust and VA work on ranged weapons, which coupled with the old ammo (what was that more powerful ammo called?) must have seen some damage...

I never knew Ranged took a flat penalty to all damage by 40%.
In that case is there any reason Physical gets a 40% reduction by DD gets (on average) 52%?
^ probably because ranged DDs work in melee still fairly well. But, SoDs and Elbs don't work nearly as well.
