Multi check! (in General)

TheHatchetman October 23 2009 4:30 PM EDT

I think we need to force people to go through multi checks before being allowed to sell *anything* for USD to go to their paypal (obviously supporterships, namings, and special items are an exception)...

Anytime someone wants to sell out, ban them from doing so until it has been thoroghly checked out. Too harsh? Well you're trying to make money from a video game. If you look at CB as "work" or something you deserve to be paid for, you need to leave now. If the money is just something you're trying to get when you leave, then meh, whatever. You should still be checked, just to make sure. If you're not a multi, then you've nothing to worry about.

I'm just sick and tired of seeing multis caught 2 weeks after they sell out. Especially the more disruptive ones.

Or we could just get rid of the NUB. No bonus, no NUB sellouts.

SundariZelia [The Knighthood] October 23 2009 4:33 PM EDT

I agree and have no problem whatsoever being checked out if I ever wanted to sell out.

TheHatchetman October 23 2009 4:33 PM EDT

and before the "too much taing an admin's time" part, that's horsecrap too... If we don't have enough for them to keep up with all the multis around, there's plenty of players who are trustworthy and wouldn't mind putting in the time for this.

BootyGod October 23 2009 4:37 PM EDT

I agree with this.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] October 23 2009 4:38 PM EDT

i think jon and ns should allow all users to restart a no transfer character with the nub. that way it is voluntary and if vets chose to do it would kill off much of the market for sell outs. auctions and special items store would be usable but i couldn't say sell something with a "classic" character and then buy it from auctions with my "no transfer" character.

it would likely create more work for admins watching auctions at first, but if many users went to this system then over time i think it might reduce their work.

TheHatchetman October 23 2009 4:39 PM EDT

relevance?

"that way it is voluntary and if vets chose to do it would kill off much of the market for sell outs."

Eurynome Bartleby [Bartleby's] October 23 2009 5:02 PM EDT

Ugh. We already have branded the NUBs who buy and sell through the forums. Anything on top of that is complete overkill. Maybe the community should feel a little more responsible about the source of their bought CBD instead of imposing checks and tags on our players.

The above being said, I understand why you are pissed.

Burton October 23 2009 5:35 PM EDT

I think we should be more aggressive towards this.
Let the automatic system IP checker go (CB better have one)
And when we notice a NUB do well, too well, the community should keep an eye on him, look around for suspicious things, but never accuse. Remember, you're innocent until proven guilty.
And if anyone catches multi NUBs, report it and rewards should be given out for people who catch multis.

In my opinion, this could work.

TheHatchetman October 23 2009 5:39 PM EDT

This would be a measure in all sellouts, not just NUBs.

What exactly would be the negative here? You wanna make money from a game, then you've got to be approved as someone who has played by the rules.

Eurynome Bartleby [Bartleby's] October 23 2009 5:49 PM EDT

There is no technical negative to such a check, apart from the time spent by whoever conducts said check. It's a logical thing to do if you want to limit fraudulent sellouts. No arguing there.

The "moral" negative is it takes responsibility away from buyers who have been encouraging sellouts with their patronage. I don't think all sellers should "pay" for the dishonesty of some others by being either tagged or having to go through tests.

In short, it's not the rules which must change, it's the people.

Just so i'm clear on what you all are mad about...

Some guy plays the game for 6 months.

He sells all his admin edit:unpg he got under the NUB bonus for USD.

He uses that money on a new NUB multi account and is even better than before.

You guys brand him as a NUB sellout/multi cheater.

Did I get that right?

QBsutekh137 October 23 2009 5:55 PM EDT

And if someone sells stuff piecemeal? A little USD at a time? Would the admins have to check every single time?

And you can't enforce PayPal or anything like that to try to track "real-life" personas. Someone _could_ pay with other means (though PayPal is used a fair amount of the time.

Not trying to kill the idea, just throwing out ideas/gotchas...

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] October 23 2009 6:00 PM EDT

Okay, this is the 3rd time this week. Was there some announcement I missed regarding the forum rules?

AdminQBVerifex October 23 2009 6:05 PM EDT

The multi-situation is under control, it is not nearly as blown out of control that you guys are making it to be. I don't want to be the bad guy here, but this multi brouhaha is dominating forums way too much. The admins are here, no need to fear.
