This directly relates to something I experience often these days. Talking about soldiers (or the army) around my parts in a respectful way only gets me an evil stare. And a permanent "heretic" status.

"What? Screw them, they're just going oversees to stir crap!"

"They're just pawns. Tools used by big shots in the government to gain power! Ewwww."

Heh. I'm quite content with my country's relative pacifism, (I live in Canada) but come on. There will always be wars around, and soldiers don't choose which fights they fight. Some of them have good intentions, a real desire to protect their countries. Some of them will be used for good, others for wrong. In the end though, I think we gotta respect those combatants who do leave their country to change the world for the best. To punish those who would take our superb freedom from us...

I guess I just wanted to say I dislike people who automatically label soldiers as monsters and murderers. We (where from is unimportant) have good men dying for us, let's be grateful, dammit.

(I Thought this was relevant to the link above, sorry for the rant. May have come out in a confusing way.)
