Weird PC question (in Off-topic)

I have 2 nice size hard drives in my PC. I want to make one an Ubuntu only hard drive, can i do that while keeping my XP drive the same and still be able to set it up as a dual boot where i can pick which OS to start up? or do i have to do it on the same hard drive?

using the bios to switch between boot drives would work... not convenient but easier than trying to explain boot managers to you
