Help Fixing Computer Screen (in Off-topic)

Newlin [SeeD] December 10 2009 2:20 PM EST

My sister had a friend over and he ended up shooting my monitor (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009175) with an airsoft gun. Now the whole right side is screwed up, but when I take a screenshot it comes out normally implying that none of the pixels are dead or stuck. Any ideas how to fix this?

Buy a new one and give your sister's friend the bill.

do screenshots capture in the processor or actually the screen? that would change your hypothesis methinks!

The monitor is toast, time for a new one.

The screenshot being normal just means that they did not hurt the computer, since the screen shot is a virtual image of what the computer signal is being sent out. You could take a screenshot of your system with the monitor turned off and it would be the same.

He will be paying. I just thought there might be a temporary fix until I can get a new one.

The temporary fix is to borrow his monitor.

Screenshot is taken right from the processor, before the info is even sent to the monitor, thus allowing you to still have top quality screenshots even if the monitor is toasted...

Thanks for the info.
