Most identity thieves are family members, not creepy bandits or phishers. Use common sense if you have a drug addicted family member or irresponsible sibling/child. If you ever do fall victim to a burglary or lost wallet, then put a fraud alert on your reports with Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax. Those fraud alerts aren't pretty, but they only last for six months or so.

In other words, those companies provide very little service. You can be proactive and pull free credit reports from www.annualcreditreport.com (an actually free one) to monitor it yourself. You honestly aren't a high risk for credit fraud unless you do things that are very dumb or have family member whom just cannot be trusted.
