Disc golf sucks (in Off-topic)

... at least when it's not done right.

I met with some friends at a downtown park today and tried disc golf for the first time. The park was relatively busy with people and had no proper disc golf course, but my friends made their own using statues and light posts. We did the front nine without any real problem, but when we returned for the back nine, things got nasty.

I waited for a decent opening in the crowd. When I finally had one, I grabbed a small "driver" disc and chunked it hard. Down the park it went, but then it banked far left. The errant disc went right for a group of six large guys. My buddy called out a warning, and three of the guys moved to catch it, but it was too late. The disc slammed into the face of a 65 year-old man, presumably the father of some of the other men.

I ran up to the group apologizing profoundly, and when the victim turned around, he had blood pouring out of the bridge of his nose, covering the bottom half of his face, and streaming over his hand. He was incredibly nice about the ordeal, but I'm sure his sons wanted to beat the hell out of me.

So, yeah, disc golf sucks. Especially when it's played where it clearly shouldn't be.

Try it on a disc golf course.

It's alot of fun then.

Disc Golf wins, I have a mess of discs myself of various materials, weights and rubberiness. Definitely go to a real park though. Assuming there are any near you ;)

You can order baskets online and make your own, though those are usually just for put practice.

What is this disk golf you speak of?

Disc Golfing is a sport that requires a lot of skill and technique. You're not going to be amazing your first time, but with going out and throwing will make you better. I disc golf a lot, and a good tip for beginners is that you should go out to an open field and just throw discs back and forth to get used to the "banking" which I call fading.

More force and more spin means your disc will go farther and straighter. It is inevitable that your disk will fade towards the end of its flight as it loses energy ^_^

Always remember this when you disc golf
"Don't throw with force, throw with precision"
*Tip I got from a Pro Disc Golfer ^_^

Sadly, there are many near me. The guys just chose to use a family park.

so its like frisbee?

Always remember this when you disc golf:
"Don't throw at people"

Lesson I learned today.

It's frisbee golf. Instead of swinging a club, you throw a frisbee. You still have par 3s and such.

except disc golf discs are a bit denser and faster than a Frisbee, well, the drivers definitely are...

I actually used to play a good bit at this park:

Aced a couple of holes (#9 and 2 others)....

But yeah, they will mess you up if you take one to the face...
