What's in it for me to be a top character? (in General)

Kefeck [Demonic Serenity] July 7 2010 12:45 AM EDT

As of right now. I see no point for anyone to be a top character in the game. How about I list off some of the perks that come with being a top character *sarcasm* ..

- You are a target, and you will be farmed allot.

- Your challenge bonus will suffer, thanks to higher power.

- You get less BA every 20 minutes

- No chance in making lots of cash.

- To stay competitive you must buy your BA everyday, no exceptions.

- Low clan points, due to fewer BA.

- Hopefully you are in a top clan, because I doubt any will be able to fit you.

Now in the last 3 days I have been using a 1.9 million mpr character (without a tat), and so far I'm loving it. I've gotten roughly 10-12k clan points of which about 8-9k have benefited my clans. My challenge bonus is anywhere between 60-100%. And I have made around 800k while buying my BA everyday. Currently I'm sitting on 5100 clan points and over 4700 are benefiting my clan. First is it even possible for 6/20 character's to get that much clan points?

I guess my ending point is that's just not how this game should be, the goal should be growing your character as large as possible? I'm seeing little reason to though when I can just sit back and relax and enjoy much better rewards and clan points with my smaller character.

Demigod July 7 2010 1:00 AM EDT

You're using the term "top character" loosely. All of your complaints regard those in 6/20, and any serious player can get that. Reaching 6/20 means you're big, but by no means at the top.

For the few at the top, they actually have fewer opponents capable of beating them, so they get farmed less and subsequently lose fewer CP.

The monotony of slowly grinding above the next player can wear thin, but at least we get new items to spice it up.

See? I can use sarcasm too.

Solare July 7 2010 1:01 AM EDT

It really depends on just how 'top' your character is. I'm typically only farmed by 4 people. I make plenty of clan points. I make about 1.4-1.6 mil a week (though I'm currently paying off a debt). I only buy BA at exp times, for the reason stated above. Of course I haven't seen any challenge bonus since perhaps a year.
Though I still find the game fun...

moskel [187ELiTE] July 7 2010 1:01 AM EDT

I tend to agree with you half way through my NUB. It is a lot more fun for me to grow than I think it may be to play at the high level -- the next 3 months will let me know for certain.

I somewhat expect I'll retire this guy and go straight to a NCB to try a new strategy with better resources. If my NCB doesn't go well I can always unretire my NUB that will be ~4M MPR and make money for a while to try again.

"For the few at the top, they actually have fewer opponents capable of beating them, so they get farmed less and subsequently lose fewer CP."

In theory yes .. But this game is so rock, paper, scissors like as of right now I wouldn't dub anyone as the "number 1" character. Which means everyone is still being farmed .. And the amount of money being thrown into those top characters really does make me wonder if it's worth it.

Idk, I guess I just find it silly that its almost a guarantee you will get more clan points and rewards in a higher Regen then you will in 6/20. I would expect the opposite. who knows maybe that new clan system mentioned might help this problem out somehow.

AdminNightStrike July 7 2010 1:28 AM EDT

Prestige.

Cube July 7 2010 2:38 AM EDT

Most people regard 6/20 as a luxery because you can hit all your BA easier without losing sleep.

Also, competitive spirit/bragging rights/prestige w/e you wanna call it.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] July 7 2010 3:34 AM EDT

NS beat me to Prestige (You've 'won' the game...) so I'll go through your other points;

Your challenge bonus will suffer, thanks to higher power.

This is a non issue. As the number one team in the game, you get zero CB anyway. And thanks to the exemption, it can't go any lower. Is effect the number one team in the game has the *best* ability to use NW out of any other team in the game.

Potentially the best reason to aim for the number 1 spot.

You get less BA every 20 minutes

So? Everyone in 6/20 gets the same, and rewards are scaled for this to not matter. You get to click less and sleep more. Some would see that as a benefit.

No chance in making lots of cash.

Say what? Rewards increase the larger you get.

Largest character in the game generates the largest rewards...

To stay competitive you must buy your BA everyday, no exceptions.

*Everyone* needs to do that...

Low clan points, due to fewer BA.

This issue effects everyone not in 10/20. With all those in 6/20 hit the worst.

Maybe the esiest fix is for (like rewards) CP generated 'scale' to the reduction of BA.

Hopefully you are in a top clan, because I doubt any will be able to fit you.

If you're not, how did you get to be Number 1 without a Clan Bonus to XP? If you bought the character /shrug Start your own Clan...

Sickone July 7 2010 4:36 AM EDT

You are a target, and you will be farmed allot.

King of Pain, #1 MPR : attacked by 4 people for 178 defeats
The Immortals, #2 MPR : attacked by 1 person, 81 defeats
NWO, #3 MPR : attacked by 8 people, 394 defeats
Incompetent Misfits, #4 MPR : attacked by 6 people, 266 defeats
Team Rocket, #5 MPR : attacked by 1 person, 33 defeats

Your challenge bonus will suffer, thanks to higher power.

That already happens by the bottom of 6/20, and almost every active person NOT running a N*B is in 6/20 already.

You get less BA every 20 minutes + To stay competitive you must buy your BA everyday, no exceptions + Low clan points, due to fewer BA.

Since everybody worth their salt does get into 6/20 sooner rather than later, that point is kind of moot.

No chance in making lots of cash.

Actually, barring people low enough to get high challenge bonuses but also high enough to have decent base rewards (and that window is pretty narrow), the higher you go, the more cash you earn, since the earnings are not linear but exponential (a rather low exponent, but still exponential).
Yes, you COULD intentionally stay small by untraining and retraining in order to earn a truckload of CB$, but then again, you would not be the first person to do it ("The Fallen", if memory serves right, did exactly this for quite a long time back when I first started playing, whatever happened to him or who did it belong to, no idea).

Hopefully you are in a top clan, because I doubt any will be able to fit you.

It is doubtful you will become a "top character" without being in a top clan your whole N*B climb, but then again, you can always start your own clan recruiting N*Bs yourself.

Sickone July 7 2010 4:38 AM EDT

P.S. "The Fallen" was lostling's char. He seems pretty well-off CB$-wise right now, heh, but he abandoned it and went with a traditional team eventually.

Ancient Anubis July 7 2010 7:26 AM EDT

should be noted that the lack of people hitting me is due in part to friendships and alliances as with many of the high up characters and also the people's reluctance to maintain a target that defeats them for a decent percentage of battles

- You are a target, and you will be farmed allot. I have only 1 person farming me.

- Your challenge bonus will suffer, thanks to higher power. No need to have a high power to be a top character.

- You get less BA every 20 minutes More Sleep.

- No chance in making lots of cash. 100k per set of BA

- To stay competitive you must buy your BA everyday, no exceptions.

- Low clan points, due to fewer BA. I was at the top of the clan weekly. MVPs 2 weeks ago before I left for vacation. I've been in the top 5 MVP everyday this week.

- Hopefully you are in a top clan, because I doubt any will be able to fit you. Almost all of the top clans have room for new people.

QBJohnnywas July 7 2010 7:36 AM EDT

Band Of Wookies, top 5 clan for the year.. 4 of us, 2 who quite regularly are in the top ten standings. We have room for people!

I don't get higher than 20% challenge bonus, but I get challenge bonuses - to expect 100% at this level is deluded. I make about a million every 4 days, and I buy all my BA every day.

Yes I do get farmed a lot, but that's because I'm particularly weak to RBF teams and there are a lot of them around up here. On the other hand I'm very strong against archers, and there are a lot of them up here.

I get less BA every 20 mins, but I get higher rewards than I did on the last ba refresh rate. And I'm very happy with the BA refresh. I can remember struggling to hit all my BA in the old days. I don't miss that at all.

Demigod July 7 2010 8:50 AM EDT

I make about a million every 4 days, and I buy all my BA every day.

Woah, how certain are you in that number? I tracked my earnings for 24 hours of non-wacky time while buying and burning all BA. Stretching that number out came to 1 mil in 7.76 days.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] July 7 2010 8:55 AM EDT

What's in it for me to be a top character?

pretty much all but the lower tier on maslow's hierarchy of needs.

QBJohnnywas July 7 2010 9:03 AM EDT

Demi,

I'm mostly punching above my weight, and I never miss wacky money time, which probably skews it. When you're in debt you tend not to care about MPR and concentrate on paying your bills!

But I've always, after a certain point in the standings, made about 2 mill a week on average.

If you like I'll start tracking it for a couple of weeks.
