I'm reading it is playable already but...
I'll remain a skeptic until I have the game in my hands. Meteors are probably going to fall on all Gearbox offices/factories before the DVDs make it to the stores.
Destiny itself has decided this game couldn't exist.
There's a firm release date, no less: December 21, 2012. You'll be able to install the game, boot it up, look at the glorious UI, and then... BAM! The world ends.

Even if it's good, it's not going to have nearly the splash it would've if it came out back in 2000. I fondly remember Duke 3D multiplayer matches at work in 1999. (=
